Has anyone ever been given written permission to bring firearms aboard a Carnival ship?

I think ships allow only shotguns for trap. All guns are stored in the "armory." I don't do cruises (except on BBs - the ultimate gun boat).

Boarding the Cruise you must pass through a metal detector. If you were packing, Customs might want to talk to you when you tried to bring the firearm back into the country.

Royal Carribean told me to forget about it. They said before 9/11 it was really tough and now pretty much impossible.
I wrote to the Virgin Islands to get a temporary permit there. They never replied to my letter but since I couldn't get it aboard the cruise ship, I guess it didn't matter.

Even the gambling cruises off the Florida coast have metal detectors and all they do is sail around outside the US waters and then come right back in.

I had an extremely difficult time just getting a knife (Emerson Commander) on and off a cruise ship at the ports. Had to go through metal detectors while getting back on. First time I set it off I was told by Mr Head security guy to leave it in the room or risk confiscation. Second time (habitual knife carrier) I set off the detector and just walked into the crowd as quick as possible, thought for sure I'd get caught but didn't. Third time (don't leave home without it!) It had been raining and I had my camera wrapped in a plastic bag with the knife rubberbanded to the bottom of the camera. I then passed it through the xray machine. As i walked thru the metal detector the security guys were watching me intently, no beep!! And they didnt catch the knife in the xray either. Cruise ships are fun eh? Oh btw, I won the dart tournament too.

We wouldn't want you on board with a sharp knife. If memory serves me correctly the cruise I went on, in 1999, featured "steak" knives at the evening meals. Perhaps they only allow plastic utensils these days.
