That was the rifles (700), not the shotguns.

I've had 870's for 20 years, they've been used hard, kicked, dropped, rattled and banged around in the truck. Ain't never had one go off without touching the trigger, safety or not.
I have seen an article on the 700. I've never experienced or heard of this in an 870. I use 500's and can say the same off them.

I have heard the 870 uses the same firing mechanism as the 700, and can discharge. But... the chances are very low. If you want to swear off the remington, better swear off Glocks and 1911's, single action revolvers, lots of people have shot themselves with these over the years. Probably should not buy anything that does not pass the California drop test either. Bad stuff can happen, fact of life, try not to let it ruin the fun along the way.

You heard wrong. They not even remotely similar.

The problem was with 700s, and tests (independent and by Remington) have failed to recreate the problem, so there may not even be a problem. The fireing group in the two guns are not more similar than a Glock is similar to a 1886 Winchester.

He's talking about a recent report by NBC about the common fire control which is used in the 870. This is a completely different issue and report than the one on CNBC about the 700s. There was a huge thread about it on this forum. You guys are behind the times. ;)

Personally, I think it's complete bull. OK, I understand the safety is a trigger block instead of a sear block, big deal. As many 870s and 1100s that have been used over the years, this would have been much more of an issue if it really was a problem.

My apologies, but my point remains valid. Any firearm could be dangerous if the rules are not followed. FWIW an 870 sleeps next to me every night, and I don't worry about it.
