Does the civilian version use the heavy barrel?

And I would like input from any of you who have experience with this rifle.

Thanks

right now, at FN's testing grounds in Zutendaal Belgium, they are testing the Scar H-PR (precision Rifle), which is not select fire, supports an 20" HB and a better (adjustable) trigger. Tested with S&B PMII optics.

Accuracy with selected Lapua ammo is within 3/4 MOA.

Just hoping for some civi sales ( it should blend nicely with my fn49 and fal)

OK, so the 17 comes with the light barrel then. I saw one in person, and really liked it. Is it OK with the standard barrel, and is it going to be possible to switch barrels in the future?

I have a DPMS AP4 with 16" bbl, and am getting a M1A Scout, but really liked the feel of the SCAR. I guess what I'm asking is if, in your opinions, it will be a significant improvement over what I currently have and will have. The SCAR is almost twice the price of the Scout, but I'm not opposed to paying that if it will fill a niche that the other two don't.

The light barrel is OK. It keeps the weight down, makes it handy, and accuracy reports seem to be between 1 and 2 MOA. Its possible to switch barrels-whether any barrels will actually be made AVAILABLE is another story. The Scar has been out for a long time. Nothing new for it yet in the barrel department.

Yeah, ironically IIRC one of the major hype points of the SCAR series was supposed to be modular mission adaptability. Well, maybe FN has offered the MILITARY the rainbow of different configurations that they showed off on Futureweapons, but as a civvie puke i've only ever seen one configuration of SCAR H offered for sale...the light barreled carbine.

But i don't see a lot of them anyway.

Don't think they bring a whole lot of new and exciting to the table. Certainly not 200-300% more new and exciting, as would have to be the case to justify the price tag, IMHO.

If you want a modular .308 that handles mostly like an AR, get an AR-10, LAR-8, etc. Use the grand you saved on optics, mags, and ammo.

Alternately, i personally think there's not a lot to complain about in the M1A Scout already mentioned.

I dont really see the point of multiple barrels either...you'd still need to re-zero your optic or sight or whatever you're using. Might as well just have an AR with multiple uppers.

The FNH SCAR-H SSR, which is similar to the SCAR-H PR (which is looking to be marketed as the civilian version of SCAR-H SSR), was adopted by US SOCOM last year as the Mk 20 Mod 0 and is currently being used in Afghanistan.

Development of the SCAR-H SSR was expedited because of a desire, by US SOCOM, for a "sniper quality" variant of the SCAR-H.
Apparently, units within US SOCOM (mostly from NSW) pushed for it, after they discovered that the Mk 17 Mod 0 (SCAR-H) has similar accuracy capabilities than the Mk 11 Mod 0 (KAC SR-25).

SEALs were taking the scopes off their MK 11 Mod 0 and putting them on the Mk 17 Mod 0 and getting the same level of accuracy.
