Ruger Redhawk rare bird landed today

I've developed a fascination with Ruger Redhawks these days, bad news for my bank account I guess :o
Anyway, I found this somewhat rare bird online and after much ado, convinced the seller that I'd provide the best home for it, so he sold it to me :)
It's a 7-1/2" Redhawk chambered in .357 magnum. From what I've learned Ruger may have made just 1000 in .357, either way, they don't show up too often. This one's in excellent condition with the lockup of a crypt. There was no deal here, I paid dearly for it, $850, no regrets.
I've already got the .41 magnum Redhawk so that leaves the .45 LC and .44 magnum left to collect.
It's funny, until I actually handled and shot a Redhawk I'd never have given them a second thought. The platform proved to hold many wow factors for me, like where have you been all my life?
Can't wait to shoot it, sorry for the camera phone picture but the real camera is unavailable presently.

Ahhh... A kindred spirit. I just got a .44mag 7.5" redhawk and cannot wait to shoot it. The 10 day wait in Cali needs to go away. Congrats on a cool purchase, just remember others understand the pain of waiting too, hopefully that helps.

Very Nice! Man, you are on a role. The good news, you got the hardest to find of your collection out of the way. The others shouldn't be as painful.

I have the same version. You are gonna love that Redhawk, it is wonderful for reloaders and darn accurate. I have read (not sure where anymore) that a total of about 5,000 were made in 357. That number is for all the different barrel lengths and blued and stainless, so the 7.5" stainless models will be fewer.
I put Pachmyer rubber grips on it but I have large hands and the stock grips felt small.
It can handle any 357 loading within safety and reason. Mine also shoots 38 specials exceptionally well. Those 38s feel like you're shooting a popgun.
Hope you enjoy it.

I have a blackhawk and like it alot, but recently I realized that although I prefer to cock the hammer having the double action option doesn't hurt:)
I really like redhawks! but have none yet:(

I prefer redhawk over super redhawk for looks. Mine is 7.5 stainless with scope mounts, 44 mag. I love it.

What? You include a pic, but no pic of the cylinder open? For shame. :(

I have the same thing Tryshoot, and enjoy it also. But now I have to look for the .357, preferably in a 4" version.

The early Redhawks were stainless only 5 1/2 and 7 1/2 " barrels. I've a 357 with a 7 1/2' and you wouldn't beleive what I paid for it when I got it back in the late 70s or early 80s.

BTW, that's his bigger brother in .41 mag wearing the Burris scope.

OK, I can take the pain, how much?
This one was $850 shipped and I used my lowest cost FFL which was another $39, painful but as I said, no regrets. I suppose as long a Ruger faces an ever growing backlog, I may look back at this is in 5 years and feel pretty astute for getting such a great deal, lol.

Geez! ouch on that price! That much cause its .357? I,ll look for one, have to do some serious trading when I find it though---hahhaha :D. Till then, my .44 version will do.

I paid $300 for mine back in the day and no,I'm not interested in selling it. I will admit though that it does attract a lot of attention at the range, especially when I set off my Redhawk only loads. Granted I wouldn't want to carry the thing as it weighs in at near 60 oz. but shooting 38 specials out of it is like firing a 22 rf

Yup, .357 is not commonly found. I'm probably crazy for wanting one enough to pay that much. Oh well. Some guns are just that way, they don't make em anymore and those folks who own one tend to hang on to them. I've overpaid before and usually get buyers remorse, not with this one.

Hey.......if you wanted it, what the 'ell. It was your money, now it's your gun. The only one you need to justify it to is yourself. Enjoy!

I love the cylinder on that thing. Looks like a .22 or .32 compared to all that metal. Too cool.

I didn't realize they made them in .357, I don't think i've ever seen one.
Ya'll are terrible because .357 is my round and you've sent me on a search to find something I don't need using money I probably shouldn't:)
Although you may have diverted my attention away from this longer barreled ruger 454! Thats a good thing! I couldn't even think of a bad excuse for why I needed that..........it would be fun though:)

If you think the meat on the cylinder is impressive. Check out that forcing cone . Good luck cracking that thing.
Enjoy, and thanks for the pics.

Being a curious sort, I ran $300 in 1980 though an online inflation calculator which only goes up through 2011, close enough though. The calculator says that $300 back then is the same as $818.95 today. Now I paid $820 for the gun (plus $30 shipping) so it looks like I overpaid by $1.05 :scrutiny:
Guess I'm an accidental thrifty shopper :D

I've heard it said that you could buy a Colt SAA in 1876 for a $20.00 gold piece and that you still can today.

I bought the 44 mag, 5 1/2'' in stainless.the tiny gun shop I ordered it from. told me,, hey you might want to jump on the 357 Mag, they wont make them to much longer,, No one wants them, and then they're going to drop the 41 too..I looked at the 357 mag, but it seemed to be the same size as the 44 mag, just smaller holes... and more over all weight,,,I took the 44 mag,,Mine didnt have the app. for the scope mounts that model came after the year I bouht mine,,One thing about them red hawks. they will live for ever,,

I had a NIB .357 Redhawk in my hands years ago for about $300.00 at a local gunshop. I couldn't picture a .357 that big and heavy, yes, I am kicking myself :)

Darn and congrats, you have found the Redhawk I'm in search of. All I have around here is 41mag and 44mag, but alas the .357 is a unicorn to me. Just a mythical creature never to be seen by man.

Guys,
Please don't hate me. I got my 357 Redhawk back around 1985 from a pawn shop. I traded an old (but working) manual typewriter for it plus 50 bucks. (No one wanted a 357 magnum that big and heavy.) That typewriter might sell for 50 or 60 dollars today. I think I did OK on the deal. :D

Here is a trio of Redhawk .357's that took considerable time to discover. I no longer own the 7.5" Redhawk .357. I still own the two .357's with the 5.5" barrel length. I regret selling the 7.5 " Redhawk .357 because I had the full collectible set of these. These revolvers are very unique, rare, and are worth having! Enjoy the photos:
