Anyone familiar with Weatherby's warranty repair station in Tulsa. OK called Sports World, Inc. ?

They have had a rifle from our shop for 14 months to re-finish the wood, and when I called today some lady who claimed to be the owner says it will be another 2 months. This is the third call I made over this time period. In 6 months I was told it was half done, in 9 months they wouldn't tell me the status other than it was not done.

Today I got the run around about how hard it is to refinish these and something about raining in OK and they couldn't spray when raining ? (maybe their spray booth is outdoors ?) I seem to have been blessed with a lot of smoke up the old wazoo from them.

Is this typical for this place ?

no experience with them but 16 month at best to refinish a stock is just unacceptable

contact weatherby

They (Weatherby) were not open on Friday. I will try to get them this coming week.

Appears that no one here knows much about this Tulsa business. I guess I will do a BB research on them as well and file a complaint there as well as with the Weatherby company.

I was hoping for some input from folks that know these people . I quess everyone is better off if they don't know them.

I don't know anything about the company in question, but for reference I live in north florida - it's never below 85% humidity here - I've refinished 4 gun stocks in the past 2 months, using hand rubbed oil finishes in 3 cases, and spray-can finish on one. It sounds to me like the contract company you're dealing with is about as worthless as a plug nickel. I'd request the stock or firearm back and refinish it myself if it took more than 3 months from the busiest shop in my region, and probably end up with a higher quality finish.

Thanks for your input.

One of the things that turned me off is the attitude I received during the phone calls. No apoligy's, and obvously no follow up, or the gun would be back. I also doubt the person I talked to was the owner like she said she was. Just like the person 8 months ago that said it was half done. The smoke roll'th up the wazoo . I just looked on the BBB web sight and they have one registored complaint for delivery, and an A+ rating.

I would have pulled the plug on this after 6 months myself but the boss has let it go. He would realy like to have the gun finished . Now, we may not be around in 2 more months, so I am trying to bring this to closure. I guess I will file a complaint with Weatherby, and with the BBB and see what happens.

I hate doing that but no one has come along to say they are normaly good folks so I guess this is their typical way of doing things.

Nothing left to say I guess other than to warn you members so you can think twice before dealing with them. If you are told by Weatherby to send your rifle to Tulsa for warranty you might ask them to pick a different spot. They have other warranty repair places.

Why not have a real stock person refinish it?
