Price trend on primers

Since the price drop of late 2010, I noticed primer prices have steadily increased in 2011 and not sure where they are headed for 2012. Do you think we have plateaued on primer prices or do you think they will go much higher?

Went to a gun show yesterday to price check primers. Winchester primers were selling for $119/5000 sleeve ($24/1000) so I bought several sleeves to add to my inventory.

What prices are you seeing locally and what's been the price trend?

Primer prices have held steady for the last 6 months or so. Small pistol primers have disappeared. IIRC, during our last Obamanation, small rifle primers were the first to disappear.

I'm not really seeing any of those type trend s here in the SW? I use SP, SPM, LR, and LRM. I load with CCI primarily, and they have bounced up and down very little, but nothing that just jumps out at me and says what the heck!

The last Win small Pistol primers I bought a month ago from my LGS were $29.99 per K.

I'm definately have to replenish my inventories before Nov. I have been doing it slowly though as not to draw attention to what I'm doing. I will have to watch the gun shows this summer, we have a couple large ones a summer around Greensboro, NC where I live.

Did you have to buy all 5k to get that price or is that a perk price?

I'm buying primers at my gun range for $30 per thousand. Was in a Bass Pro in Orlando 2 weeks ago and they wanted $44 per thousand. Hope to make the gun show scheduled for June and stock up.

They seem to be holding steady at Powder Valley.

CCI SP, LP, SR, LR = $26.00.

CCI LP are 39.99 at the LGS
Same for SPP of CCI

Winchester is about $34.95 I think? At my second LGS, There was no other brand of SPP other than Federal so I opted to get them. They were a little over $30. All these prices are per 1k.

It was $25/1000 or $24/1K if you bought the 5000 sleeve.

Couple weeks ago Cabela's had CCI primers on sale for $30 / 1,000.

I bought a box of LR since their not likely to get any cheaper than that any time soon. They were completely out of LP but strangely had a full shelf of LP Magnum primers. I think a hoarder or two got there ahead of me.

Justin,

The Winchester LPs I just bought are marked for standard or magnum loads.

St. Louis' Grafs: $31.99/k Remington of all 4 types. I'm gonna start repleneshing the stock steadily for the remainder of the year with CCIs. Anyone have a problem with those?

$24.95 for Federal SP or LP where I buy my supplies. They were out of SP primers for a while.

My lgs prices are a bit higher than the big box stores. Sportsman's Warehouse is about the cheapest in town at $33-35 / 1000 in any brand. The LGS prices range from $36+ but I like to support them as the big box gets my money in a lot of other areas; fishing, camping, hunting, etc.

Graf's had a gonga deal going on a few months ago. They were selling REM primers for under $100/5000 and S&B for about $90/5000. I didn't have the cash for a large order. They were also advertising free hazmat with 32 lb. powder purchase. It had me thinking about a $1K order that would set me up for a few years. I keep watching them every week or so to see if they start another big sale.

I called and talked to tula last week. the lady up front said they get 1 shipment a year, and it's due in in a couple of months.

My local Reloading supply shop has Win, CCI, and Federal for $27 per 1,000 or $125 per 5,000 sleeve. He had about 20,000 or so wolf primers for $22 per 1,000 about 2 weeks ago.

A year ago I saw CCI 500s locally for $34-$36.
Now at Powder Valley they're $26.

Seems like we taught the retailers that we aren't gonna pay that price.
I know, I for one, went with Tula rather than CCI just because of the prices.

Fairbanks Alaska is around 33 per 1000 now. I bought them at a gun show a few years ago for a steal of 25 per thousand.

No problems at all. During the shortage I could not get my Winchester primers so I went with CCI. I now prefer those to the Winchester.

I understand it may not account for the whole difference but I do believe there is a Hazmat charge when shipping from Powder Valley or anywhere else. At the local stores near me I have never seen more than 5,000 primers in stock of any brand at any given time so my stores don't seem to be buying huge quantities. YMMV

I haven't shopped at my LGS in about a year. I got tired of something being to sore to sit in my car after I left. They charge $55/1000 & Walmart is $33/1000 but they only carry CCI. That is before tax.

I only have to buy 1 box of primers to pay hazmat & shipping.

I bought CCI sp primers yesterday at gun show for $26. Also bought 2# of 2400, 1# of Unique, and 1# of 4227 for a total of $74. I thought that seemed reasonable enough.

I gave $125 + tax for CCI at the Ft Worth gun show last winter. Same place had them for $140 + tax Saturday.

Around here they are around $30.
A few weeks ago, I called NW Armory and was quoted a price of $32 for Federal.. I go down there and plop two down on the counter and was rung up at more than double what it should have been. I explained that I had called yesterday and was quoted X price.
It took some shenanigans etc for them to not sell them at a very high "per 100" price.
On the way out, the owner walked over and we made small talk and shook hands.. nice guy.

I only went there as another place was between shipments of CCI and this place was closer.
