In my Goverment size pistols I carry the old stand by..Federal 230 gr. but I am now carrying a Commander size handgun and looking at these three. #1 200 gr +P Corbon $15 per 20
#2 200 gr +P Speer GDHP $13 per 20
#3 200 gr +P Hornady XTP $10 per 20
Anyone have any info? Yea or Nay......

I use Winchester 230gr JHP (USA45JHP). I get 50 rounds for what others pay for 20. The truth is that there is not as much difference in modern JHP ammunition as people think. The following article gives a good explanation:

CorBon.
You're going lighter due to shorter barrel length vs expansion I suppose...unless yoyu wanted flatter trajectory at longer distances. I'd stick with the 230g anyway. Might be an issue with the micro guns but not the Commander or G30, imho.

No experience with 1 or 2, but Hornady 185 XTP (standard pressure) ran in my Kimber and Colt all day. I also shot a box of the 200 +P. Way hotter than the 185.

Tough call. All are great rounds. I'd probably roll with the Hornady as I am familiar with their quality the most.... those other loads, I've never tried.

You prices sound just a tad high. 200gr G.Dots, Sabers, Corbon and so on are all worth trying out..........by them online. And get a hell of alot more ammo than that for the same $. Everygun shoots differently, find the bullet that your gun shoots well and you can obtain readily.

There is a thread running under Strategies and Tactics, about real life experiences.
Here is the link:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60164&perpage=25&pagenumber=2
-The story starts about half way down the page.-
From a 3 3/4" barrel, a Federal Hydra Shock 230grn Jacketed Hollow Point did not expand.
The author now carries Speer Gold Dot 200grn +P jacket hollow point.
Reading this got me thinking about my carry ammo.
I currently carry 230gr Winchester Personal Defense ammo in my 3" barrelled Defender.
If the barrel of my gun is 3/4" shorter than the gun he used, I'll have less of a chance for my bullet to expand.
I'm going to start experimenting with +P and standard pressure ammo, of different weights, (in water jugs) as soon as warm weather gets here.

The 200 Gr +P Gold Dot was for a long time a notoriously poor-feeding round but was known for outstanding terminal effect. If they ran in the gun, they would be my first choice of those listed here.
But I have to agree with GW and suggest 230 Gr. In Commanders and smaller, I've had the best experience with standard pressure 230 Gr loads. It comes down to whatever works for you in your gun. I'd be very comfortable with Gold Dots (200 or 230 Gr as long as they were reliable) Rangers and Golden Sabers.

Might wanna take a look at the Taurus HEX. It's a 185 gr. all-copper Barnes bullet that opens like an umbrella while penetrating well -- an ammolab.com test had 15".
Cor-Bon at the SHOT show revealed it plans to come out with a line of the Barnes bullet ammo in 9mm, .40 and .45 acp.
A Google for Taurus HEX will turn up links to several reviews of its performance.

Really, I don't think there is a need for lighter-weight +P ammo just because 3/4" of barrel got chopped off. I'd probably still use standard-pressure stuff like Winchester RA45T.

I found the 200gr Gold Dots to be a little iffy in the feed reliability department from the Kimber I had. The 200gr XTP +P seemed like a more reliable feeder.

Any of the ones you mentioned would be fine. Half of the time mines loaded with hardball.

Hornady from experience. But I load my own.
I need to look into the WW 230gr HP myself though.

The 200 gr Gold Dots and the Hydra-Shok are considered to be old designs which have failed to expand during gelatin testing with denim. The 230 gr Gold Dots, Remington Gold Sabers, and Winchester Ranger T's are considered to be more reliable as far as expansion is concerned.
Check out these results: Ammo Lab (http://www.ammolab.com/Test%20Results.htm)
Look at the Black Hills loadings for the 230gr Hornady XTP's at the top of the page.
I'm not sure if the 45GAP 200 gr Gold Dot uses the same "Flying Ashtray" round that is used in the 45 acp 200 gr Gold Dots.

Before you get all wrapped up in expansion, velocity, and price, I suggest you try them all and see what feeds best in your pistol. It may be the greatest bullet ever designed, but if it won't feed in your pistol it will do you no good.
