What's the status of HR 822?

Does anyone know what the status is for HR 822, the national CCW reciprocity legislation? Once it was passed by the House and went to the Senate, it seems to have disappeared. Is it another bill that Harry Reid is blocking from any action?

It's in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Not likely to get out and will die there. :(

Last I heard it passed House on Nov 16, 2011 and we are still waiting for the Senate to look it over and probably deny it. There is a predicted 26% chance that it will pass.

Do they have a time limit to review it?

There is no information in regards to a review/vote date as of yet. I have emailed some of the co-sponsors of the bill asking a few questions and will post as soon as i get them.

No, time limit.
They can keep it in the committee until they decide upon it or keep it shelved until the current congressional session is over, which effectively will kill it and it will have to start over next year.

Several committeee members (Schummer D-NY, Feinstein D-CA) have vowed to keep it from reaching the senate floor for a vote.

04-18-11, Senator Feinstein D-CA cited the Zimmerman/Martin shooting as one of the reasons why HR822 was placed on hold.

I dont want the federal government doing anything with state's rights about ccw other than enforcing the constitutional right outlined by the 2nd amendment. Not licensing, permits, restrictions on carry anything.

You obviously have no idea what this bill is about then.
People see "congress" and "carry permit" in the same sentence and they assume its bad.

IIRC, all the bill does is allow people with concealed carry licenses to carry in any other state that allows concealed carry as long as they obey the concealed carry rules in the states that they visit. That means that I still won't be able to carry concealed in Illinois.

HR 822 has almost zero chance of passing the Democratic majority Senate. The Senate or House is not obligated to take any action on an introduced bill even if it has been passed by the other body. If the Senate does nothing, the bill will die at the end of the year when the session ends.

Sounds like as convenient excuse as any for his arrogant anti-gun ass. God, when are the people of Michigan going to wake up and ditch this moron?
