usually numbers inside a triangle was intended for military use, and numbers inside a oval or rectangle is for commercial sales

Kind of like AK's with the triangle that has the arrow in the middle seem to be better than the ones without overall.

That's Izhevsk/Izhmash arsenal. 99% of the time, that means converted Saiga.

we have an aresenal 0404 sks that we have been able to find nothing concrete about. basically what i know about it is from serial number date, how it was built, the stock and the sight markings.
With all that i've been able to find out it was built in 79 from arsenal 0404 which could have been a guys garage for all i know. even though it's a late build date the way it was built is more like a late sixties one, still screw in barrel with a thick short lug. the color of the stock and the markings, it looks like it was to have been made for their police. other things i've found out about it was that it was apparently test fired and that was it. we picked it up in 94 and it sat until 2011. we took it out to the range and found that not only was it never really shot but it's pretty darned accurate with non surplus ammo.
The neat part about an sks is that each one has a story, a round about way it made it into your hands. they are cryptic, sometimes nonsensical, or just plain odd how they end up in a closet in jersey. yopperj.com is a good place to start.
