I was looking at some 10mm loads for 175 lswc I am seeing a start load of 5 gr of W231. That sees a bit low to me, can anyone confirm this?

Lyman 4th Edition lists 5.5gr and 5.9gr for starting loads of 231 with their 175gr lead bullets.

My Lyman 49th edition also lists 5.5 gr of 231 as a starting load. 5.0 gr would probably be safe but you would find that cycling would be on the sluggish side. This would be true if the standard heavy recoil spring is installed. Stick with published loads listed in reloading manuals like the Lyman and be safe.

Thank you very much. I thought 5 gr was light. And yes I did up my spring to a 20lb so I am sure 5 gr will not cycle my slide.

My plinking load is a 180 gr. plated FN & 10.5 grs. Blue dot. I personally see no reason to load lighter than that. If I want a cream puff, I'll just use a .40 or .45 and not lose the expensive 10mm brass.

My defense load is a 180 gr. JHP over an amountof IMR-800x that I will provide by PM if interested.
