PSL with shortened barrel?

Has anyone taken a PSL, Romak III, FPK, etc. and purposefully had the barrel shortened from the original 24' to 19' or 20'? How much did it cost you to have this done? Has the work improved the accuracy of the rifle? Would you recommend this type of work to others?

Thanks guys. :)

That might mess with the gas system, but that's a might. AK-type rifles are pretty overgassed. I've seem some "paratrooper" PSLs with barrels shortened to the point that the front sight base contacts the gas block.

I remember there was an outfit in Shotgun News that used to sell "paratrooper" PSLs a few years back alongside standards. I think they only came with the iron sights. Seemed like a pretty neat carbine. I'd like to try one out someday.

There was somebody not too long ago who was selling carbine length PSLs with 16" barrels. I think it was TGI but it could have been Waffen Werks. Anyway, based on reports from the few guys on another forum who bought them they were good reliable rifles. Long range accuracy did suffer a bit but they were still pretty good.

Yes there are "paratroop" length PSL's around, hacked up.

54R out of a short bbl = not the best idea in the world. Unless you're into singed nose hair and triple hearing protection.

Waffen Werks made what was called an AK-54r. It was a PSL with a shortened 16 inch barrel and AK length gas system. They got a couple bad reviews, but weren't terrible.

16 inch barrel for a 54r is not a good idea, from what I've read. If you'd like though, they make the Vepr 54r in 23, 20, and 16 inch barrels.

Well. This is starting to sound like something I no longer wish to touch upon. I was also reading up on the other thread regarding the 30-06 and a shorter barrel. I think it best to leave well enough alone.

Thanks.

Yeah, the shorter barrel 54r is something that, at first, seems like it'd be a really neat idea, but in practice falls short :(

If it is reliable, I don't understand why it would be a bad idea. It will be loud, have huge muzzle blast, and be cheap to shoot... sounds like a winner to me.

I'd personally love it!

No different than a short barreled Mosin Nagant for noise, flash, etc... maybe less with a flash hider.

Jim Fuller seems to think the concept works... eliminate some barrel whip IIRC.

It's only money.
