Hello ladies and gents.
I am in baton rouge as a lot of you know and i go back to the gun store and see a nice leather holster for a full size 1911. I look at it and its a galco v hawk. It is $100 and that's kind of high but hey its galco and leather. I have seen decent reviews and i have been seriously considering carrying my ruger 1911 and i do NOT want to wait 10 weeks on a holster for a gun I'm going to carry sometimes so what say ye? And experience with this holster around here?

Take a look at this thread.

Steve at http://www.rkbaholsters.com/ who posts here as Gun Nut built me an awesome Colt DS custom holster that I got in less tha a month for a total of $55.00 delivered!

Takes a bit more patience than going to a store but you will get the quality you want for a great price. Check out the 1911 IWB/OWB convertible for 1911 on the THR post. I have one on order.

BTW, I'm in Shreveport.

You can get a better holster for less - check the holster section for makers that make great stuff but don't have a long wait. I use a Spark's VMII and if you look around you might find one in stock.

$100 is not bad for a holster. It is expensive for Galco. I have had several Galco holsters and have not been impressed with their build quality or performance. A holster that prevents the gun from coming out of the holster is useless. Holsters that creak incessantly are irritating. Frankly, Milt Sparks and many other holster makers have much better products.

I like the Milt Sparks summertime special.

Basically the same as the v hawk, but half the price. I've been wearing mine with my commander for about 2 months now, and it's super comfortable.

Okay ladies and gents
I believe I'm going with a Kelley gun leather c-flex. These are highly regarded in the 1911 community. Look them up and tell me what you think. I am getting the c-flex in horse hide with shark trim for $130 in 3 WEEKS!! plus they just look like quality. People compare quality and feel to the vm2 and i know Milt sparks is the originator but in not waiting 6 months sorry!:D

Overpriced. There are better values. It's a nice enough holster though. It's a winged design holster which I think are the way to go with heavier/larger guns. I run the Crossbreed for my 1911. They all pretty much work the same and leather quality and craftmanship will differenciate them. Regardless, patience pays, haste does, so your call.

I modified a 50 dollar galco summer something or another and it's better than the 75 dollar canted one I bought.

Holsters; a box full of dissapointments till you find that the cheapest was the best all along.
