They used to call them "Boy's Rifles", but my daughter and granddaughter smack me in the arm when I refer to them that way.

I picked up a NIB Savage Cub this week for the grand kids. It's a classic little bolt action, single shot .22, short, long or long rifle with a short stock. It reminded me of the rifles we had at Camp Betz for boy scouts, except those weighed 8 pounds and had a trigger with a 34 pound weight ... or at least it seemed that way when I was 11.

The nice thing is, it has the Savage Accu Trigger and is only 3 pounds, so they should be able to handle it. It has a nice peep sight and you can add a scope later when they get the basics down and grow into using it.

Anyone have any experience with it? Suggestions? Cautions?

IMHO, the very best choice of the lot for the truly "micro" sized kids' guns. I have on for our kids and I shoot it more than they do. It is a "real" rifle in its features (bolt cocks itself, real feed ramp, GOOD trigger) unlike some of the other choices.

(I shoot it more than they do. It's my go-to groundhog gun!)

The Henry Micro Bolt is nice too.
