Hallo. I just got a S&W 38 special M&P from around 2 world war converted in England in the 1950-1960 to kal 22 by installing a new 6 inc barrel and rework the original cylinder so it can handle the kal 22.Ewerything is done wery nicly .I took it to the range and noticed right away that the cylinder was binding most off the time after I HAD FIRED THE FIRST SHOOT.With a emty gun no problems.I also had troubles extracting the emty cases the level got stuck and i had to hit it hard before it would move so the emty cases could be removed.I cleaned the gun before shooting it and now I has cleaned it again using special attencion to the chambers and cylinder front and back.Hope that takes care off the problems.

Sounds like it just needed a good cleaning, and in any event that is the first place to start...

Let us know if it cured your troubles...

Clean especially well under the extractor star on the rear of the cylinder as that can hold powder or fouling and raise the extractor just enough to cause a binding.

Centerfire .38 converted to .22 rimfire? Was the firing pin moved, or were the chambers angled so the original pin would hit the rims?

I have a 19th century .38S&W F&W revolver with oversize firing pin hole in the recoil shield; if the primer flows into the hole the cylinder binds up. Do the casings show an indent or are they cratered?

(in other words photos would help)

Make sure the ejector rod is tight. They can and do unscrew themselves and bind up the gun. I lost a good size chunk of skin from my thumb pushing out the cylinder on one that did this.
