And I was forced to buy it. I said no more leverguns this year and here somebody smacks me in the face with one for $400. I threw in $40 to make sure his attention didn't wander elsewhere and picked it up this afternoon :D

She's a .308 Savage 99e Series A with a serial in the B-800k range. Came with a handful of ammo, Tasco 3-9x50 scope and a decent padded leather shoulder strap. Almost makes me sad this was a father/son hand-me-down and predictably the rifle has seen considerable use and comes with condition issues. Bluing, scratches some rust... Will need some TLC before I take it out to the range.

What? Of course I have pics :D

Even with the issues, I can't say I'm disappointed for the paltry price of $440. Give it some love, and maybe localize the date on that serial.

I hate it when that happens ! Any Savage 99 is more than likely going to have some handling marks.
Mine is a 1951E model with a schnabel forend & 24" barrel, it belonged to a buddies Grand Dad, then his Dad, then him, and now me (10 years).
Every one of us has hunted with this gun, and it will still put 3 shots into 3/4" @ 100 yards.
My handloads, with 165 grn Speer grand slams over 38 grns BLC-2.
Love those 99's. Congrats ! and good luck with yours !

You will not find a finer lever action rifle than a Savage 99.

I loved mine, then I pulled a boneheaded move and sold it....... I need to find another!

The lack of a boss lever stamp seems to indicate 1972 or newer, but I pulled the furniture off and found some more stuff. The left side of the tang is stamped YG15. The right side looks like a J. And I got the scope out of the way and it also reads Savage 99e with a Y stamped below it.

Not sure if any of that has relevance, however :p

Great deal. They are wonderful guns. 11/2 inch or better groups at 100 yards are easy.

I took this dandy mulie in Black Hills of South Dakota. Distance was approx 225 yards, a cross canyon shot. Savage .308 is a keeper!

Nice score. From the wood, it is a more recient made gun. I saw one in 303 with an octagon barrel some time back that I really wanted but just did not have the bucks for it.....chris3

The same thing happened to me 2 years ago. Mine's a 99e in 308 and in excellent shape. Bluing is almost 100 percent and no real scratches anywhere. It has become my favorite deer rig and is paired with a redfield revolution accurange. I took a 10 pointer with it 275 yards across a wheatfield the year I got it on opening day.
