Hi folks,
Looking for some help on reloading some Lake City brass on my Hornady L-N-L Classic press. I am new to reloading and been reading alot of the posts and reloading manuals but not able to figure out what the problem is. I am using Lake City brass with has been swagged using a Dillon swage tool. primer pockets have been brushed and cleaned. When i go in install the primer it will not seat! I use constant pressure but the primer will not go in and the primer arm is stuck up and i cant remove the case. I have already set one primer off in the press. It was a federal primer that went off. I tried Winchester and CCI but still they will not seat. I tried other Remington 223 brass and the same thing happened. Seating a primer should not be this difficult. When i run the press with out the primer and just the brass the primer cup sticks in both types of brass. I switched a new primer cup onto the press and still it did it. Anybody have any suggestions? Assuming you have the small primer feeder arm and cup and a #16 (Hornady)shell holder installed, I'd call Hornady. I've found them to be very helpful.

Yes, That's an odd one. I suggest you call up Hornady as well.

Unless you didn't swage them quite enough? Grab a piece of brass that you already swaged and use a regular countersink to remove a little bit of brass. Then try to prime that piece of brass and see what happens

Try a Lee/RCBS/whoever hand primer ... can you readily seat primers by hand? It's fairly easy to fail to go full depth using a Dillon Super Swage.

Not sure what you mean ... are you referring to the spring loaded primer punch as "the arm?" It's not likely stuck in the up position (pretty much impossible to do unless there's debris in the spring coils and then it would be somewhat up all the time) ... it's an incompletely seated primer that is hanging low and will prevent plate rotation.

If the punch moves freely and there's a primer seated over it AND the punch has full range of motion, the problem pretty much has to be the brass. To check for the range on the punch, insert a factory primed case and see if the punch will move up to stop against it.

The primer cup and post are connected to a pivot arm on the press. When i try cases whether LC Rem Win the cup and punch assembly arm will not pivot and just rides with the ram up and down when i pull the lever arm. At this point i think it is either the punch or cup getting wedged in the case since it does this without a primer in the cup. I think the punch on the dillon super swage may be too small in diameter. Thanks for your response and all others as well. Will be callin dillon on moonday to see what they say.

It sounds like the primer pockets have not been swedged enough. Differant lots of brass will requier differant settings on the swedging tool. Be careful as you can over swedge them also and will have primers that fall out.
