Winchester 1897 Problems

It was built in 1921, and I refuse to give up on it. It jams pretty much every shot. You know that thin steel tab that is in the ejection port? Well, if I push it down with my finger after every shot I'm fine. If not, I have a jam. I can shoot it, eject the round every time. But if I don't manually push that metal tab down I cannot chamber the next round. Is this a common problem? I took it to one gunsmith. He couldn't fix it.

Mosey over to the SASS Wire site. Lots of folks in Cowboy Action Shooting run '97s and there are gunsmiths that specialize in the old pump guns.
