Looking for a quality sporter stock in some better-than-cheesy wood. I don't need exhibition grade, but a bit of figure would be nice. Having a hard time finding anything on the net except Richards Microfit and Great American. Heard/read too many bad things about both to go there without some serious reservations. Recommendations?

I've had very good luck with great american, i also prefer their patterns to anything richards or boyds offers. That being said, great american semi inlets require more fitting than boyds or richards.
Out of around 30 stocks between me & my friends only 2 had problems.
The inletting was cut about 1/8" to deep and the bottom metal had to be shortened

I've used a few Boyds. They make good stocks, but they seem to focus on utilitarian plain wood. As originally stated, I want some nice figure. I didn't see a single offering for anything that looked any different than an economy factory stock in non-laminated wood. If they offer any better wood, they need to put it up on the website.
I'll relook Great American.
There are few stockmakers with a web presence. I'm open to others who might not be on the web. A name/phone #/email addy would be greatly appreciated.

OH, well if you want 'nice wood' be prepared, those start high and go to astinomical
usally the cheapest way to do it is search around, on Gunboards there was a mention of a guy with a stock duplicator, who would carve any stock for something like 75 + wood + shipping, so 75+200+30 shipping....
