+1 on that musket. When I was a kid I saw those in G&A and really wanted one. Funny thing, it took the "musket" thing too literally and wondered why they'd make a 30-30 with a smooth bore:p...I was 13 I suppose.

That is way cool.

Nice wood on the Marlin scout project, and very nice Browning model 71. The Henry has some nice wood on it also. So someone explain the Winchester Musket a little more. I can understand the 30-30, but was it really a smooth bore as someone posted? That just does not sound right, or did I miss the joke! OK I'm slow! I get it now.

DMH

Cocked & Locked

Close...it's a 9N. I'm guessing you know the following. 9N's were made from 1939-1941. Mine was made in 1941.

The 2N's were made from 1942-1947 and the 8N's were introduced in 1948.

The Marlin is from the early 1960's...forget the exact date.

Wow. Absolutely amazing selection.

Red Cent, that looks like an 1866 trapper carbine, but it's missing the side loading gate. I know a wooden forend on an 1860 henry is not feasable, and that that is not a 1860 henry's magazine tube, but that does look like a henry reciever. On second look, the magazine tube looks to be from a current henry big boy. You sir, have perplexed me. Is this a custom firearm combining the loading mechanism of the big boy with the reciever of the 1860?

The gun redcent posted may be a .22lr and therefor no loading gate. I think some very early uberties where set up that way. It looks like an 1866 uberti without the loading gate. It may even have a saddle ring on the right side of the receiver.

I hear you on not liking the looks of a scope on leverguns. Couple of solutions....

Put a tang sight on it. Much better accuracy than the standard semi buckhorns.

Or...Keep one levergun "stock" then buy another and mount one of the compact scopes on it. The Weavewr CLASSIC 1-3X20 is a good choice at a reasonable price. Compact scopes look better on a levergun than standard size scopes.

No we're entitled to the opinion that scoping leverguns is not to our liking. IMHO it ruins the balance and feel of guns that have perfect balance and feel.

thought you might like to know, It's actually a "BuzzBee" gun, which is basically the same thing, but I find that the company makes more 'realistic' 'nerf' guns than Nerf, that can actually teach a child how to handle firearms in ways that are closer to the real thing. Not historically accurate (in appearance, anyway) but I think it's a very clean look, kind of an "old is new" design . From what little I've heard, Chiappa does good repro guns, but I haven't been able to hear from any first hand owners here. There are no reviews out there on these guns :(, I guess Chiappa's just too new to the US. Please let me know if you've handled a Chiappa lever before.

Now I just have to decide if I'd rather have 5 rounds of 45-70, or 10 rounds of 44 Mag...or if I should get the T-Model 1887 12ga (just kidding :D)
