jwrowland77 May 20, 2012, 09:28 AM I've read several places that the Mink Oil Polish is great for using as case lube and it's a lot like Imperial Wax.
How do most people apply the Mink Oil Polish? Q-tip, cotton ball or other means? And do you just apply a nice light coating?
I've been using Hornady One Shot to date.

loadedround May 20, 2012, 09:56 AM Just buy a tin of Imperial Sizing Wax and be done with it!
Josh45 May 20, 2012, 10:22 AM I use Mink Oil when I ran out of One Shot.
I just lightly coat the tip of my fingers well and pick up a case and apply it.
I do this with .308 and 30-06 brass.
zxcvbob May 20, 2012, 10:25 AM Use your fingertips, just like Imperial. (you can also use castor oil on a lube pad or with your fingers) I use mink oil to lube .30-06 cases. I've switched to Dillon Spray Lube for .223's because it's faster.
jcwit May 20, 2012, 10:27 AM Both are very similar as to content. Main ingredient in both is lanolin.
Mink Oil may be much easier to find as every WalMart carries it.
Wipe a little on your finger and thumb and wipe the case, not a glob, just a wipe.
mdi May 20, 2012, 11:50 AM Fingers! I lived in an area where reloading supplies were obtained by online ordering only. So, I looked for stuff that worked that was available just about anywhere and found Mink Oil Boot Dressing. Worked as good as or better than stuff I had to buy online, pay shipping, and wait. I dip a finger in the dressing, pick up a case, work the case around in my fingers a bit and size. I've also put a bit in a butter tub and sloshed around some brass to get an even light coat. Works on bullets too (yesterday I sized/installed gaschecks on 100 .44 cast bullets lubed w/mink oil...).
ranger335v May 20, 2012, 06:01 PM Those new to Imperial/Mink Oil (and Hornady's "Unique") often make it too difficult, I've even read of some using them on a "lube" pad as if it were a messy oil! Both of those are waxes and it needs to be applied like auto wax; a very thin coat with complete coverage is the goal. That makes finger application very simple and, with just a little practice, very fast!
I keep the open lube container beside my press and softly touch the surface with thumb and two fingers before picking up a case for sizing. A second or so then easily allows me time to spread a full coat of wax on each case as I place it in the shell holder; I normally only need to re-touch the lube after 2 - 4 cases, depending on size. Total lube + sizing time is very little more than it would be if I didn't lube at all! And 'clean-up' amounts to wiping my fingers with a paper towel dampened with a spritz of "Windex".
mbopp May 20, 2012, 07:35 PM I use Mink Oil for resizing 357 cases. Rolling 6-10 cases between my 2 fingers and thumb before rubbing my fingers over the Mink Oil makes sizing a lot easier, even with a carbide die.
Jasper1573 May 21, 2012, 06:59 PM Do you also put it on the inside of the case neck?
Josh45 May 21, 2012, 07:09 PM I never put Mink Oil inside the case neck when I sized 308 or 30-06.
No problems there again. i don't know about different calibers...
StandingTall May 22, 2012, 10:46 AM I put a small amount of Imperial wax on my palms, rub my hands together, grab 5 or 6 cases and roll them between my hands.
Works great for me, anyway. Doesn't take much.
Timmypage16 May 22, 2012, 01:23 PM I use Hornday's unique for all my .223 re-sizing. I liberally apply it to one case and then run 3 or 4 more without any, then another lube case and so on. I have not had any stuck cases this way and it is a bit faster than lubing each one with it. As for lubing the necks, I have a carbide sizing button to eliminate the need to lube the neck.
