I recently purchased some Dduplex Hexolit 32 shells that are described as 2 3/4" but measure closer to 3".
They will cycle through a pump shotgun with a 2 3/4" chamber just fine, but I have yet to fire them from said shotgun as I don't know what kind of pressures I might encounter if the shell is being pinched when fully seated in the chamber. I also don't know if there's enough clearance in the ejection port after being fired.

Has anyone had any problems firing these shells from a shotgun with 2 3/4" chamber?

Part of me thinks this is my subconscious trying to justify the purchase of a Mossberg 930 SPX that I've been wanting for a while (hey, it has a 3" chamber after all) but I really am curious. Certainly if there have been reported safety problems, they would have changed the description from 2 3/4" to 3", right?

If it matters any, the shotgun with 2 3/4" chamber I'm planning on using them in is an IAC/Norinco 1897 Riot model.

If is mis-marked and actually IS 3" ammo, yeah that could get very exciting shooting those shells....exciting, and NOT in a good way.

Are those shells standard "star-crimp" or 'roll-crimp'? roll crimps tended to be a bit longer unfired, but fired they are the same length.

Never heard of that ammo brand...maybe a pic of the box?

The length on the box is supposed to be the length after firing. It is not unusual to see varying lengths from different manufacturers, but most 2.75" shells are usually "around" to 2.5" before firing. A different type of crimp might make sense, but I'm not familiar with this.

That appears to be a slug load with a very short roll-crimp.

I note on Midway's website they have been discontinued however.

They should measure 2 3/4" after firing.

2 3/4" after firing, before firing length can vary greatly depending on crimp type. Most shot loads are around 2 1/2" before firing, slugs are sometimes a little longer before firing because of the crimp type.

On a side note, those are some scary looking slugs. Give us a range report, eh?

Yes, they appear to be roll-crimped, so I guess all is well.

Here's a shot of (from left to right) a 3" Remington 41 pellet #4 buck shell, 2 3/4" Hexolit32 and 2 3/4" Fiocchi 27 pellet #4 buck shell.

As long as it's safe to fire from my shotgun with 2 3/4", all is well. Thanks for the info!

They're not 2 3/4", they are 70mm :cool:

The length of the chamber (E) is such that you can shoot 2" 2.5" and 3" long shot shells in your barrel.

I just discovered that my 16 ga. Marlin Model 90DT O/U made in 1947 has 2-9/16" chambers. Always assumed they were 2-3/4" and I have been shooting all sorts of 2-3/4" shells in it for years without any apparent issues.
