Resizing 30-06 brass...

Is it odd that I only had to trim 12 pieces out of 50? I measured all of them and only 12 were longer than the Speer manual's length of the brass. I can't remember the measurement but thought it odd that I only had to trim 12. Is this out of the realm of normality?

For first resize, that sounds normal. There is an acceptable range for brass lengths. Most manufacturers are cheating toward the minimum length.

Yeah, Winchester kinda cheated me on the last 500 cases I bought; all of the same lot, presumably...Some were a hair under the 2.484" I was trimming to.
But, I seated the bullets to the same COAL as always and the mouths still fell in the cannalure, so once they are no longer virgin brass, I should be able to trim to uniformity!

IMO we need much more information to give a good answer to your question.
1. Is the brass once fired or has it been trimmed at least once before?
2. What rifle was it fired in, Mil surplus, fairly new hunting rifle, tight target type chamber?
3. You did measure/trim the brass "after" you sized it, right?
Also, just curious as to who made the brass you're talking about?

That was going to be my first question, did the OP resize before trimming?
