GT Static Targets (http://www.gttargets.com/targetsandbases.htm). They work great, and are reasonably priced. I made my own stand.

I get mine from a guy I shoot IDPA with 6" for 25.00 8" for 30.00 AR500
But most of mine are not that hard I use anything from 3/8 to half inch mild
steel for my non magnums and they hold up well.I just drill holes and hang from shepard hooks.

Looks like it is just held up with a bent piece of rebar.
But here is a complete package.

Walkalong, thanks for the link. looks like it will cost me about $110.00 per target assembly, not counting shipping.......

you can get targets way cheaper than that
look at big dog steel or spin drift tactical
if you do a search, i have posted several pics of the target hanging system I use
if you want pistol steel, use static. if you want rifle steel, hang them from firehose

these must be portable to take to and from a range and they would be for pistols.

Make these with safety in mind; ideally, you want the face angled down, so it sends ricochets and splatter down into the ground, instead of up over a berm or into the wild blue yonder.

here is a link to one of the threads Matt Cosman was on a few years ago.

Mayby PM him for prices. He will cut almost any shape and size.
I agree that the targets should be angled downward. A gong style plate would swing back and deflect spatter downward.
I'm going to buy a couple 3/8" shepherds hooks from Home Depot and see how they work for my 2 holed plates

I was at home depot and found a few different shepherd hooks. I took 2 of the cheaper $6.97 hooks to see if this was a viable target holder. It looks like the sq bar stock is between 1/4" to 5/16" and the bottom welds will need to be reinforced.

I didn't care for the verticals to be so close to the target itself so tried this.

I think rope or hose would be better from a safety aspect. I can make these out of 3/8" rebar and have a couple spares for only a bit of my time.
I do have another idea that I may try out tomorrow.
So far, the AR500 plate was 25 and the hooks were 15. Couple bucks for grade 8 bolts. Not sure if carriage bolts might be better.
Here is an earlier thread on steel targets with some suppliers noted .

JERRY,
I haven't shot at mine yet so don't know how they will hold up from repeated hits.
Although I believe AR500 or 550 is the way to go, I also don't believe it is mandatory for pistol only use.

This 1/2" thick steel swinger has endured countless thousands of handgun hits and only started to bend a little. We used to host group shoots with dozens of participants and set up these swingers at about 15 yds or so.
Mild steel can be OK if used properly.

I'll see how this works out.

27hand,
i got my 10" plate in today, took out directly with a wal-mart 4 foot shepherd hook.
works great for .22lrs but my 1911 .45acp made it bounce quite a bit....flimsy shepherd hook.
im going to see if i can find some wrought iron(sp?) sheppard hooks and a little taller too.

Jerry,
I was afraid that might be the case.
I'm going to make a couple shepherd hooks from 3/8" rebar.
One thing that crossed my mind was tack welding a nut on each hook and using a cross member to kind of stabilize it.
I was hoping to get out this weekend but have too much other stuff going on.
When I get it together, I'll post a few pics.
Did you have any issue with the hooks coming out of the ground as rounds were hitting? I may lengthen the stab ends a bit.
JERRY

no problem with the stab ends coming loose. dirt is semi clay dirt combo here.....when i hung the plate it dipped noticiably, that was a clue of what would happen when the plate started to move from being shot.
with my daughter's LCR-22 it was great at 5 and 7 yards....the .45acp was great at that too and out to 25 yards, but the excessive "bouncing" of the plate when struck made fast follow ups a challange.
rebar, thats what i meant, not wrought iron.

This guy lives up the street from me and makes top notch stuff...

The local post office probably isn't a fan because he stuffs them in the low cost "you fit it, it ships" boxes. :)
Edit: He also has some neat IDPA moving target holders and activation stuff.
