Springfield Armory Serial Numbers

Yesterday we went on a tour of the Springfield Armory National Historic Site. If you are ever in the Springfield, MA area, this is a must see for anyone with an interest in firearms or American history.
Personally, I was like an 8 year old arriving at an amusement park. :)
Among the collection of firearms were M1 serial numbers 81 :what: & 1M There was also 2M, 3M and the final one made in 1957, although I didn't get photos of them.

Yes, an amazing place. When I went, the second floor (maybe 3rd) was closed off. Was it open when you went?
