Im thinking about getting a Marlin 336BL in 30-30 with a leather stock ammo carrier as a hunting/survival/brush gun any thoughts? Reliability is the main point for me and follow up shots at a close second. Caliber, model, and setup suggestions all welcome, thanks yall!

Ohhh and the largest dangerous animal we have as of now is black bear (not counting two legged predators)

I think they are a good general purpose firearm. I travel with my lever action quite a bit and feel quite safe with it.

In general, the 336 is a fine gun. The only thing I can suggest is to either buy a used gun, or very carefully examine any new gun before buying. Marlin was recently bought out and their manufacturing moved to another factory, and there have been consistent reports of serious QA problems with new guns for the last couple years.
