Scope eyepiece touching ...help

I wanted to consult the experts on this. Using weaver medium rings on a Savage 93R17 to mount a 3-9x40. The objective sits a few mm above the barrel (perfect), but the eyepiece just barely touches the receiver in one spot. Is this okay or should I change to high rings? Thoughts?

There should be clearance between the scope and the receiver.

You could likely shim the rings in order to get the needed clearance.

It should not touch but being a .17hmr and no recoil I'll about be willing to bet it won't matter in this instance.

Maybe some Electrical tape?

That was my thought because of the lack of recoil

If it is actually touching then the recoil is not the problem but the shock from the vibration is.

See if you can shim it up or go to the higher rings. The repeated vibration through the scope will make it fail sooner or later.

It should not touch anything.
Get higher rings.

Shimming inside the rings will only warp or bend the tube, eventually ruin the threads, or internal lens mounts.

None of the above is good for the scope, and very not good at all for accuracy.

To clarify, I didn't mean shimming inside the rings - I meant shimming between the scope ring and the rail.

You can most likely loosen the rings and slide the scope back about 1/8" and get the scope off the receiver. You may need extension rings rather than higher if there is not enough room to do this

I ended up just putting on higher rings...worked like a charm, and now there is enough space for my scope covers I always use. Thanks guys
