The most fun gun game there is, as far as I am concerned. Who else is shooting 3-gun?

I hope this thread takes off, because I'd love to see more. Three-gun seems like it would be a blast, but it's something I don't have the time or money for. Maybe in the future...

It works well. But you have to be cautious with them. I saw no less than half a dozen of them get shattered last weekend because people were trying to stuff a rifle into a barrel and weren't dropping the mags first. They aren't as robust as a simple 30 rounder.

I only have video from one stage of last weekends match. It looks painfully slow now that I watch it.. but it felt fast while I was doing it. :eek:

Cool video. I plan on getting into the sport eventually, looks like a lot of fun!

Picking up a Mossberg 930 JM Pro today to go with my Yankee Hill rifle and Glock 35.

I also really want to upgrade my Burris 1-4 optic but not sure if I have $1500 to blow yet!

The belt has been changed to a CR Speed belt with Blade Tech drop & offset and a mix of bought and home made mag/shell holders.

M&P Pro 9 with Apex striker block, hard sear. Otherwise factory. Not pictured 5 mags, 1 is extended to 22 rounds.

Mossberg 930 with modified choke and nordic +4 tube, clamp and charging handle. no mods to receiver.

18" rifle gas AR with Sabre lower, Bravo upper, DPMS MK12 barrel 1:8 nato chamber, MI SS12 forend, Titan brake, Timney 4lb trigger, full auto carrier, spikes t2 buffer, weaver 1-3x (this will soon be a nikon 1-4x) and badger charging latch.

How has that Mossberg 930 been treating you? A friend of mine is in need of a 3-gun shotgun and he is weighing that as a lower cost option. I have heard good things about them.

to IndianaBoy: The 930 has been flawless for about 15 matches. Fast to reload, fast shooting, great bird shot patterns, slug are accurate, etc. After everything it was about $700. I had to switch the ported barrel for a non ported barrel. No your friend can get a 930 JM (jerry miculek) if he can find one. The JM is ready for 3 gun out of the box. Otherwise, get the cheapest 930 he can find. Call mossberg and ask them for a non ported 20", 22" or 24" barrel. Add a +4 tube extension and it is ready.

I just ordered the new (and unreleased) SWFA 1-6x scope. Hope it comes soon!

Well....was that necessary? I don't shoot either 3-gun or Cowboy Action (High Power happens to flip my switch), but I can see where shooting guns that are mostly plastic, wearing sights that require batteries might seem a little silly to some. But to each his own, right?

Now, is anybody can post some pics?? I've always been a little intrigued by 3-Gun.

Minor point but the TA33 ACOG on my rifle requires no batteries. And those little scopes are bomb proof!

I would benefit from some highpower shooting. My offhand rifle is a little weak. Not as weak as my pistol shooting currently though. :(

You should try 3-gun. It's a lot of fun. Every match is different, with different challenges. I wouldn't be half as good a shooter as I am now if it weren't for 3-Gun. Actually I need to get out the door and get some pistol practice in!

I may try 3-gun at some point, but I simply love shooting at relatively small targets with iron sights and hitting them! Adjacent to my 100 bench, I just set up a metal version of a 200 yd. SR target for practicing offhand. To me, there's nothing quite as gratifying as hitting a 13" target at 200 yds. offhand.

35 Whelen: You can shoot limited class in 3 gun, with Iron sights. I am thinking about trying it. Currently, I use a 1-3x weaver with no batteries. We shoot 200 yards regularly and 300 occasionally. I feel your not giving 3 gun a fair chance. It is very challenging.

Running hard for 30 to 50 yards, shooting at 10 pepper poppers, maybe a few clays. Grounding the shotgun. Grab the AR. While your heart is pounding and breathing is jacked shoot 10 or so small steel flash targets from 100 to 200 yards. 3 gun is more challenging than you think.

Not all stages are like that. We have at least one that tough every match. Some matches throw in the occasional Texas star or polish table.

Give it a shot.

At last weekends midwest 3-gun, there were 10 inch flash targets at 300 and 400 yards. Everyone shot them prone from a tower, but nobody would have told you not to shoot them offhand!

Not giving it a fair chance? I just don't, at least at this point, find much interest in the running-and-gunning stuff. I understand the premise, just doesn't really do anything for me. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it.
Sort of like blondes and brunettes....I happen to prefer brunettes, but that doesn't mean I'm "not giving blondes a fair chance!" ;)

13" at 200 would be considered an easy taget at the 3 guns I've been to.

Offhand?...as in no sling, no rest, no support of any kind? If that's easy to you, you're in the wrong game my friend. But then again, they're all easy to hit sitting at a keyboard, aren't they?

I wouldn't say easy, but if given a target at that distance I'd probably drop to prone or support on something. On the other hand we shoot 6 or 8 inch plates standing at 100 all the time so 13" at 200 isn't much different.

The dimensions of the SR targets are
3" x ring
7" 10 ring
13" 9 ring

So a 13" steel plate is still a pretty big target for offhand shooting. I know I wouldn't miss it without a huge gust of bad timed wind or some other disaster. A good offhand shooter should be hitting the 10 or better at least 80% of the time.
