H380 (which is in fact an original military powder)
http://www.reloadbench.com/gloss/hh380.html

Great in 308Win/30-06 (and the 22-250, Swift, etc, etc)

W296 flows like H110.

Wait, it is exactly the same.

Powders that I use which flow similarly, AA2230, W748 (and other Winchester powders), True Blue, AA#5, and AA#7.

There are other powders. Most are classified as "ball" powders.

For me, there is no other magnum pistol powder. I load almost exclusively with it where applicable. I've tried a multitude of other powders for magnum wheel guns, and I haven't ever found anything else that flips my switch like H110 / 296 does.

Ya, I like it, I like it a lot!

Most ball powder in my experience. W748, W760, H335, BLC-2 for rifle and HS-6, Accurate #7, 296/H110 for Pistol are the ones I've used the most of. Charge after charge they split the line on the scale.

If you are looking for alternatives, try 4227 and L'il Gun. I have been experimenting with each of these powders for my XP100 in .221 Fireball and am liking the latter. More velocity and less pressure.

I agree W296/H110 meters like water and there are a few Ball rifle powders that meter as well. As said above the Hodgdon HS line of powders also meter quite well because they are Ball powders. As for rifle powders the Winchester powders are all great because they are Ball powders as are H335 and BL-C(2).

4895 is considered the Unique of rifle powders but it's not a Ball powder so it doesn't meter as well as the Ball powders. AA2495 is Accurate's version of 4985 and they also have a Ball powder equivalent of it which is AA2520. AA2520 is nicknamed the Camp Perry powder so you know it produces accurate ammo.

Most any Ball/Spherical powder will meter very well and there are now a lot of them on the market. Find the one that will produce accurate ammo in your rifle/caliber combination and run with it...

Like H-110 ?

No, I don't. I LOVE H110 :D

It's been my go to powder for top end 45 Colt loads for a long time, and I wouldn't even want to guess how many pounds I have run thru various .44 Mag's. It just has the right personality for those type loads.

+1
If you handload for rifles, it doesn't get any better metering than H380. I love it for bullet weights up to 165 grains in the '06. It's accurate, but the ease of metering is what I really love about it. Set the Uniflow and load all day. I still check it every 20 rounds or so, but I've about decided that it's just to make me feel better, because I never have to adjust once it's set.

As for H110, I do like how easy it meters but I don't like the small window with it. I like 2400 for stout .45 Colt loads. Doesn't meter as well, but it does good enough.

I think I see some h380 in my future,,,,,,,,

Although I must say, not all ball powders are the same. W231 is a ball powder...but is nothing like h110.

I think most (all?) of the ramshot lines of powders are ball. I've used xterminator, and it meters awesome.

As mentioned earlier WW748 is a great medium rate ball powder as is Ramshot TAC. For slower, H414 is hard to beat allthough it seems to get little love, burning rate similar to IMR 4350.

I have somewhat of a soft spot for H414 as it is the very first powder I ever loaded with. H414 and 165 grain Hornady SST bullets in a .30-06 was the very first go around. We were rookies with no clue. We bought it because it had load data for .30-06 listed right on the can.
I have found that it is highly susceptible to static though. You dump a load in the case and there is a lot stuck to the pan. However a used dryer sheet will eliminate this problem.

Nothing says fireball like 30.5gr of H-110 under a 180gr XTP in a Ruger Alaskan 44mag :D

No I don't like it due to reasons sited above about it's narrow charge weights. I don't need to sling heavy for caliber bullets as fast as possible to make up for testosterone deficiency complex. I like to send 220gr Kieth SWC bullets out of my .41 mag to around 1300- 1400fps, I've found that 18.5gr - 19gr of 2400 will do that with ease. On top of that it's accurate and about all I want to shoot from my BH.

Here is another reason that I don't like H110/296, pay attention to the top strap and forcing cone. Then read about the other powders that were tried. https://sites.google.com/site/hobbyhintstricksideas/Home/s-w-329pd-info

No thanks I'll just stick with 2400 and AA#9

No I don't like it due to reasons sited above about it's narrow charge weights.

This is the reason i changed from h110 to 2400. OP As far as other powders metering as well, there are plenty of them and several i use have been mentioned in this thread for rifles and handguns.

I have no other magnum powder in my future. I absolutely love the performance H110 / 296 produces in every aspect, especially the big flames and heavy recoil. It really lets you know you are indeed shooting full house magnums.

Another quality of H110 / 296 is I've found it is impossible to make an over charge mistake with. You can't get enough in a case to do anything bad. I tried the rifle data for H110 / 296 in my revolvers, S&W 66-5, Taurus 608, and Ruger SBH (44 mag.). Other than running out of room for the powder, nothing bad has ever happened, and pressures really didn't seem any different than any where else within the published data. Lets face it, H110 / 296 are all out powders for magnum wheel guns. It just doesn't get any better when loading full house.

aa#5, h110, and h335 all look identical to me (visually)... Love'm all. If you could download h110 it'd be perfect, but that's where 2400 comes in.

Thats the exact reason I use AA#2 in my pistol loads.
