[RMC51]

I'm back and I still have the same problem, I have been to three LGS and no one can get this Weaver mounted correctly. It is a Weaver V9-B 3x-9xAO. It is a El Paso Weaver pre 1984, so I'm told.

First question:
Is there anyone that can check/repair this old Weaver. It is in good shape, but no one can get it sited in. Is there a expert somewhere in the country that works on these?? Is there anyone in south florida?

Next question:
If no one can check/fix this Weaver, I need to find a replacement.

What I have is a 1958 Winchester M70 30-06 with Leupold 1" rings. What I need to find is a Leupold 1" 4-14x40, 6-20x40, something in that area. I want to shoot 500-900yds with this. I would like to stay under $700 if possible. Does anyone have knowledge of the Leupold line that would fit in this?

Back in the early days of scopes, a buddy told me that you had to tap the scope everytime you made an adjustment in order for the "crosshairs" to settle. I have seen more than one shooter at the range do the same thing. I don't think it's necessary on today's optics, but back in the day things were different.

If you turned the adjustment counter clockwise, you may want to tap them.

The backlash is like tuning a guitar. You want to approach the adjustment from the turning clockwise direction. The energy stored in the stretched guitar string is like the energy stored in the scope erector spring. You want to stop after storing more energy, not less. If less, we would be depending on the spring force to take up backlash, which it may do erratically.

And I have seen it in old El Paso Weavers.

I may have a couple of Weaver 3x9 scopes.
I have ~17 old Weavers, half are on a junk pile for spare parts.

I don't think any of them are worth repairing.

Go to a gun show, find an old El Paso Weaver 3x9 and offer $50.
That would be cheaper than a repair and two way shipping.


I have been practicing to kill my sure kill range out from 500 to 600 yards for deer and antelope.
I have been using a Kestrel, range finder, and a chart I make from Quicktarget.
I think what may be holding me back is that I need to read mirage with the scope at intermediate ranges.
I am told that will need a scope with 15X or 25X to do that.
If all I needed to worry about was elevation, I could hunt with a 2X.
