Well guys, I just got a new revolver! :) It's an Armsport 1858 Remington, absolutely spectacular looking! A fellow THR member gifted this to me and requested I do a repair video. I'm not sure if he wants his user name mentioned but Ken if you are reading this, thanks buddy! :)

You can't see the engraving too well in this picture, but it looks very classy! The quilt it's sitting on is the cowboy themed quilt that my mother made when I was about five years old. Rather fitting! :D

Now for the video, I'm sorry if my camera isn't really high definition. I'm filming with my laptop computer at the moment due to my camera being horrible. Of course it's still a bit better and doesn't sound like it's sitting on a washing machine.

On a sidenote, when it was delivered today the mailman gave me a funny look before handing me the box and said "Levi... why is there a big .45 caliber muzzle sticking out of the corner of the box?" I just paused for a second and said "Well... actually it's a .44, but close enough." Then he says "Well... You are a gunny! It's not like I should be surprised here!"

All in all it was a good day. I got a new remmy and couldn't be happier.

I had to smile when I saw the Leatherman tool. I use the same thing on my Pietta Remington. Fits better than my Grace USA drivers for most screws on that gun.

Shortly after I loaded up both revolvers again and shot of 12 rounds in about 10 seconds, let's just say I've never had that much fun in a long time. Tons of smoke, I felt like Doc Holiday and actually smoked the bad guy target. Sure felt good to do some rapid fire and send a lot of lead downrange. Two Remmys are indeed better than one! :)

I also shot a rabbit with my Pietta Remington, he's in the oven right now. I didn't want to take a picture after I made the kill because I shot that little bugger right in the head and it was extremely messy. I don't want to give hunter's a bad name, gotta not freak people out and post gory pictures. I used 30 grains of Pyrodex and a .454 round ball, what a lethal combination. It is good that rabbit died a quick and painless death, I hate animal suffering.

It's been years since I purposely went hunting and killed something for the pot. It feels as though I slowly lost the heart of a hunter over the years of not hunting much but I got it back today. I think I'll put a notch on my Remmy for every kill, that would be sweet!

Was it the recording or were you getting delayed ignition with those guns? I have had that happen with Pyrodex but not with black powder. Pyro= paBOOM! Black= BOOM!

I was definitely getting delayed ignition, funny thing is I was using the exact same flask of Pyrodex in my .50 rifle that day and I was getting great ignition. I'm starting to not like Pyrodex as much for me 58's, maybe I'll try some reduced loads of Triple Seven at about 18 grains. Or what about some paper cartridges with T7 or APP as a booster charge? I think that would help!

Since you fixed the hand spring, is it possible the gun has too much endshake in the cylinder? That could be your problem right there.

That could be what is causing the misfires, I'm thinking about soldering a small spacer onto the end of the cylinder to help tighten it up a bit!

If you pack Pyro down fairly snugly it has less delayed ignition. I got a lot of it when I used wads over the Pyro. Going to straight black took care of the problem.
