I read THR these days more than my other favorite "Drudge Report" when I'm online. I read all the reports Pro and Con on different guns. There are times I believe that credit should be given where credit is due.

I have several guns ranging from historical western guns for my hobby, and guns for hunting and for self defense when I'm out and about. When possible I like to carry my Glock 22 in town, but summer is here in Kentucky and the humidity has returned. My go to gun for those days is my KelTec PF-9, because it fits in my pocket holster and is 9mm.

I am a strong believer to shoot-shoot-shoot what you carry and I have put several hundred rounds through it since I bought it last summer. Being a retired LE, I practice reloads and possible misfire drills.

Two weeks ago, I began to notice that, unless my little finger was under the magazine, at times the mag would drop down during firing, giving me a Failure to feed. Of course I wouldn't know that until I pulled the trigger again and there wasn't a round chambered. A quick slap on the bottom, rack the slide and continue the firing would fix the problem, but it was disconcerting.

I emailed KelTec last Friday asking them if they have had any complaints about this problem. They emailed me back almost immediatly and said I may have worn the mag catch and I could send it in but it would take about 8 weeks to return it, or if I felt confident enough, they could send me one with instalation instructions.

I asked them to mail me one and I would pay for the part. Today, Thursday I received a new catch and spring at no cost. I could not be happier with their attention to my problem. I know many might say it should never have happened in the first place, but I've been hard on this pistol, more than most people probably would.

My wife is handicapped now and with the meth heads moving out here in the country, I intend for whatever I carry to be depended on, not just a belt accessory.

Just giving praise where I think it deserves to go.

I have the Taurus TCP. I've had the same thing happen but not often. I've shot the Keltec and the Ruger .380s quite a bit and it happened a few times with them. I see the problem being that with these tiny guns, there is an instinct to hold on to them pretty tightly as they jump hard on shooting them. This caused the shooter to inadvertently press the mag release button and the mag then drops down a fraction of an inch. You don't notice it because of your finger curled under it. Anyway, since this was happening, I try paying attention to not gripping the grip that tightly and have never had it happen again. I've read as well as experienced this happening even with full sized pistols.

Kel-Tec does a great job in responding to customer needs and they stand behind their products 100%.

Glad it worked out for ya.

I bought a replacemnent gripframe from Kel Tec last year to swap the brown one that came with my p3at for a black one. It is around $30 from Kel Tec directly. It looked easy enough to install so I did it without reading the instructions. Of course I broke the frame. It was no fault of Kel Tec. After calling them and admitting it was my fault they still had a new one at my door in a few days FREE OF CHARGE!

BTW the grips are very easy to change, just follow directions

They've got a pretty good rep for customer service, and they sell replacement parts directly from their web site. I've bought spare mags and mag extensions there, and had them delivered in a couple of days.

Absolutely outstanding customer service. I dropped my P3AT off at 9:00, got back home at noon and the phone rang telling me my gun was done and ready to go!

They'd replaced the blue slide with a hard chrome model, new bbl, all new springs!...........I basically got a new gun for all of 70 bucks and quicker service than I've ever had from any gun company.

Oh yeah, that gun was used when I got it, had a bunged up trigger shoe epoxied on. Lady who called told me she was sorry, they had to break it to remove it so they were giving me a new one free!!!!!!!!

Are PF-9s are to find since Florida shooting?

No shortage as far as I know. Why do you think there would be?

No, the Sanford incident has done nothing to the sales or availability of the PF9. It's not widely-known among non-aficionados what model GZ was using, and those of us already "in the know" were well familiar with the PF9 even beforehand.

I used to have a PF9 and was also a member at KTOG forum. Getting parts are never a problem and free at that. I shot over 1000 rounds through mine and the slide stop broke. I called them and a week later I got a new slide stop and a spring but I had to use the old spring (it's also a takedown pin lock) because the new spring didn't match the old one.

Yes, great customer service IMO. I took a P-11 with a broken slide stop into the factory shop in Cocoa. 45 minutes later, it was returned to me with a new stop, spring, recoil springs, trigger bar, polished the feed ramp, and a few other parts I can't recall right now, test fired and cleaned, all free of charge.

If you live nearby Cocoa, Fl. you can call them and bring your pistol in and wait while they fix it and test fire it. I took them 2 pistols and it took them about 1/2 of an hour.
Outstanding.

Kudos to y'all for actually having a positive thread. I am sure the haters will come out of the woodwork any moment, but for the time being, kudos.

After reading this, I'm even happier I decided on a P-11 for my carry piece.
American made, good little guns, great customer serice and a great price. That's the way everything should be these days!

I just thought I'd show a pic of the gun I started the thread about. I use a S&W mini light on it. (I know...shame shame..LOL)

Middle of the night, it will light up my entire porch and then some. It was expensive, but worth it. No street lights out here...
