k4swb May 25, 2012, 04:30 PM It is discontinued but can still be found fairly easily.
Ruger P90.
ClickClickD'oh May 25, 2012, 04:34 PM A S&W 645 would fit the bill.
dubya450 May 25, 2012, 04:38 PM Another vote for the ruger p90. My uncle has one and although cheap in price, its still a reliable nice shooting pistol and backed by rugers outstanding customer service.
huntsman May 25, 2012, 05:21 PM S&W 4506 or my favorite a 4566 a bit shorter barrel
hentown May 25, 2012, 05:28 PM Star PD, just don't shoot it a lot! ;)
56hawk May 25, 2012, 05:33 PM You should be able to pick up a Beretta 8045 for that much.

Or the Stoeger version (the Cougar), probably easier to find since it's still in production.
Great gun either way, the Stoeger should be easily found under $500 before taxes and stuff.

franconialocal May 25, 2012, 05:58 PM Some old used Sig P-220? Do you require a new firearm?
foghornl May 25, 2012, 06:13 PM Since no 1911's, Ruger P-90. Noit currently made, but probably still available here-n-there.
meanmrmustard May 25, 2012, 06:23 PM Used Cz97
jim243 May 25, 2012, 06:35 PM Ruger 345 still made and sold.

But it is a polymer frame and the OP wants an all metal pistol.
miles1 May 25, 2012, 06:45 PM Doesnt have to be new but hopefully not hard to find. Thanks for the suggestions so far.
Robbins290 May 25, 2012, 07:13 PM A sa 1911. Used around 500. Pretty reliable for the price
JimStC May 25, 2012, 07:44 PM Why exclude the 1911 design??
Buy a revolver if the 1911 is an issue. I honestly can't understand avoiding the most tried pistol design. I would not carry anything else except my revolvers.
Good luck on your search........
rcmodel May 25, 2012, 07:59 PM S&W 625 Revolver and a pocket full of clips!!
Yea! Thats the ticket!

7mmb May 25, 2012, 08:09 PM Witness Elite Match. Most accurate 45 under $1000. Most accurate 9mm, 10mm, 40 S&W and 38 Super too. They can be had new for under your $600 threshold. All steel and mine is totally reliable. Good looking pistol too.

Thats beautiful.
Under $600?
Rob G May 26, 2012, 01:39 AM Some old used Sig P-220
+1 P-220s are fantastic guns and you can find them used for under $600 if you look around a bit.
scythefwd May 26, 2012, 01:43 AM ballister molina if you can find one...
cheeze May 26, 2012, 03:04 AM I had a Taurus PT945, and that was one fine .45. It was accurate. It is in your budget and is a really fine looking pistol as well. I could hit the target consistently at 100 yards with it, but I don't recall the group size. I don't remember it ever jamming either, even with hollowpoints and semi-wadcutter reloads. The stainless one was light for it's size.

coalman May 26, 2012, 03:28 AM Used P220.
JimStC May 26, 2012, 06:30 AM Miles,
I get it now. Thanks.
The S&W 625 is a beautiful gun. I have one and agree wholeheartedly with RC's recommendation. Retail at S&W's website is $979. I think I paid $825 at my LGS. I asked them to order it and it was a 10% over cost to them purchase. GunBroker has about 30 for sale if you do a search.

Just a smidgen out of my price range lol.
I really want to stay undeer $600.I recently bought a CZ75b and flat out love it.Im interested in their 45acp version but cost is an issue.Im taking a closer look at the stoeger and p220.
JimStC May 26, 2012, 01:18 PM Financial discipline is a good thing :D
Jaymo May 26, 2012, 08:08 PM Star Firestar .45. Accurate and reliable.
Or, a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special revolver. Not a .45, but the bad guys will never know the difference.
I second the recommendation for the EAA Witness .45. I love mine. I've had the for 13 years and they're tough, reliable, and accurate.
NMGonzo May 26, 2012, 10:36 PM 4506 ... run out of ammo and you can still hurt people with it.
itchy1 May 27, 2012, 07:32 AM Another vote for the S&W 4506/4566 options. As reliable as Old Faithful. There should be enough $$$ left over for several boxes of ammo as well.
Sapper771 May 27, 2012, 09:57 AM Another recommendation for a used Sig P220. Second, a used S&W 4506.
wally May 27, 2012, 02:44 PM Another vote for the EAA Witness Elite Match .45ACP, its the gun the CZ97 should have been and uses the same magazines as the CZ97. Run around $550 new around here.
Dawson precision makes a nice fiber optic front sight for them which really helps my old eyes.
miles1 May 27, 2012, 03:56 PM The SW 4506 looks sharp. How hard is it to find mags for it?
Ive heard that EAA CS isnt the most helpfull.Any truth to this?
I did find one sig 220 locally but the guy wants $650...non-negotiable.He didnt seem to helpful.
Anyone actually shoot/posses a stoeger 45acp?Anything good/bad they want to maybe share?
wally May 27, 2012, 04:26 PM Ive heard that EAA CS isnt the most helpfull.Any truth to this?
That's true, but they don't make the guns, they do have a good on-line parts ordering setup.
You'll probably get better support from Henning Wallgren http://www.henningshootsguns.com/ if something should go wrong but the Elite Match are very well made pistols and pretty much problem free in .45ACP, other calibers, especially 10mm, can have magazine issues.
modifiedbrowning May 27, 2012, 05:51 PM Sig P220. Check www.shedhorn.com That is where I bought mine, they have one in stock right now, used.
4v50 Gary July 9, 2012, 12:04 PM Before buying a S&W 4506 borrow a friend's and try it first. I carried one briefly before going back to a Sig P220. I shot better with the Sig and when hip shooting (we did that as part of our qualification shoot) the muzzle blast was more pronounced than that of a Sig.
foghornl July 10, 2012, 08:29 PM If you want all-metal non-1911 in .45ACP, Ruger P90. No longer made, but still available here-n-there.
joe 1951 July 10, 2012, 08:29 PM Bersa .45ucpro.
