Colt Trooper MKV 4" barrel, blue steel.

This Is an old story. You guys know know how it is...ya see some sweet-looking used gun in the display case @ the LGS. Ya Waffle around, next thing you know, one of the other guys has bought it!

So it was w/ this Colt Trooper MK V 4" blue. That was last year. But, once again 'Lady Luck' grants this poor wretch an indulgence! . The fellow who bought just put it in his safe, never fired it. He needed $$ to buy a riding mower, so he brought it back to the LGS. I walked into the LGS yesterday @ lunch time. Low & behold the Colt was back!

As I handled it, t was almost like the Colt was asking me: "Am I going home w/ you today big-boy? Or, are you gonna fart around again, how about it then"?

No farting around this time! It came home w/ me.

As you can see, a couple of scuff marks on the top strap and both sides of muzzle the blue is worn a 'lil thin. $499.00 + tax. How did I do?

A used Smith model 66 or 19 is a better gun and a better value if you could get them for the same price. But if you're a Colt collector it is a nice get. Colt's from that era have terrible triggers in my opinion but if you only want it for your collection then who cares? Congrats.

I think you did great! That's a fine looking revolver. They're tough as nails, and strength-wise, superior to any S&W K frame.

As long as the wear is "honest", and not the result of "Bubba 'smithing", you've got a great revolver.

The triggers on the MKlll's were quite nice in my experience, the fit and finish were for the most part as good as any Smith of the 70/80's. It appears your revolver is in great shape and you did well.....

That is nice service revolver for fair price. Other oldies but goodies were: S&W 19/66, Ruger Security/Service Six and Dan Wesson 14/15 revolvers. All winners imo.

Wonderful revolver! Great purchase. I own Colt and S&W revolvers and enjoy both. Gave my son my 1976 Trooper Mark III when he graduated from Marine Corps Basic Training in 1994. Regretted not having the Mark III for years until I bought two, 1978 and 1982 vintage. It is a great revolver......

Weeeeeeeeell, ya see, there was this S&W 681 in the case next to it. I was having a hard time deciding which one to buy. :confused:

Then the perfect solution came to me. Buy both wheel guns of course! :D However, so as to not incur the dreaded 'multi handgun purchase form' , the S&W 681 is in the safe @ my LGS until the required number of business days has elapsed. ;)

As I am a 'Perfered Customer', I don't need to put down $$ for a soon-to-be-purchased item; my LGS just puts it in the safe for me. :cool:

I don't think you will be sorry. The revolver that is my personal favorite of all I own is a Colt Lawman MK III 2" .357.

You did fantastic! Would love to have the 6" MK.V I had way back when. Best fitting (to my hand at least), factory stocks on any revolver I have ever found.

Saw a Trooper Mark III 357 at a gunshop the other day... they wanted over $1000 for it. I just chuckled.

I have a 4" Trooper MkIII that was in desperate need of some TLC when I bought it last year for about $250. I cleaned it up (it was filthy!!) and a little emery paper and 0000 steel wool application with some home cold-bluing afterwards, and, I have what may not be the prettiest Colt wheelie, but, it is probably one of the smoothest-firing and most accurate 4-inchers I have. Plus, since it is only cosmetically challenged and not operationally challenged, I carry it whenever I go to the mountains and don't worry about the little scratches and other wear marks it may get.

I like the Colt Troopers, got a nice 6" nickel gun myself. I think they are a bit like the Dan Wesson .357 guns; seriously undervalued. As far as Colts go, if I was stuffing my 401K stocking I'd do it with snake guns, for plain old good shooting at the range, it's Trooper all the way, along side my Smiths of course :)

I bought one over 30 years ago a 4" nickel plated, The Pythons were not available at that time. I believe its a great gun and find no fault with the trigger compared to other hand guns and I have experience with revolver triggers. I used this gun as a hunting carry gun loaded with 158g jsp. I now carry a ruger SBH loaded with 210 sthp in .44sp in the field. The Colt Trooper is a big gun when compared to my wifes S&W 686 4" and the double action on the Smith is easier to pull. To me a Colt Trooper can be a great buy.

You got that gun for a fine price. FYI to the other posters - a Colt Mk V is not the same gun as the much-more-common MKIII. It has an improved action and IMO it is superior in many ways to the MKIII version. Colt made the MKV for only a few years and collectors often pay a premium for them.

ultramag, you did good. Those factory wood grips will fetch $100+ a pair just by themselves.
