I was given this machete as a gift about 20 years ago and it has sat in the closet. Today it made short work of a coconut. Does anyone have any info on this make and if it is any good? I always assumed by its sheath that it was a tourist piece but notice "Solingen" on the label. On the opposite side it is stamped "CORNETA PRODUCTO CENTROAMERICANO", "No 127", and a cornet logo. Overall length is 27" w/ a 22" blade. Blade appears to have high chromium content. Handle is some sort of Bakelite material.http://s86.photobucket.com/albums/k98/dreamcatchermedia/?action=view&current=IMG_1928.jpg

Gebrüder Weyersberg from Solingen in Germany used to make the blades for Corneta. The company that now makes it is Imcasa of El Salvador. (Note: I got this info off of another blade forum that I'm a member of, so I hope it helps.).

Looks chrome plated to me.

Maybe it's a parade/dress machete? :D

I moved the posts from the "Corneta machete part 2" thread into this one.

They appear right after the initial post.
