I can't find my log right now, and the only result I can remember was for the Winchester Super X 40gr. Out of my 3.5" Smith Model 51 it averaged 1235fps. Basically the Mag out of my pistol = the LR out of a rifle.

The Fed 50gr is a little slower and the Dynapoint is a little slower than the Fed.

If I can find the log later, I'll post the results.

I'm pretty sure Jeff @ gunblast reviewed a 4 or 5 inch Taurus 22mag revolver and listed velocities for a few rounds... I'd dig through his archives.

Speer makes a Gold-Dot .22 Mag especially for pistol barrels (as opposed to rifle barrels). Figures for velocity from ~4" barrels range about 1140 fps (a "rifle load" .22 Mag does about 1300 in the same gun, with more flash, bang, and recoil).

Hornady makes a similar load.

Considering a 2" snub-nose revolver can still average nearly 1,100 fps with certain loads, one can expect a 4" barrel to produce over 1,200 fps with most loads.

This is another reason why I love the .22 mag. :)

Thanks spotch, did not know about gunblast! ( did look, u were right. ) .Thanks to others for information. I have always thought the .22mag. was underrated! Now w/ammo costing so much it is looking even better! It seems to be a great trail gun. Thanks agin!

I did a chronograph on 22 rimfire just last year.

Remember though that no two guns are exactly alike.

I believe my figures are about 50fps to slow. I will be useing a Taurus 541-4", .22mag. rov.I am looking for ammo to get for it. I need a lite recoil trail gun that I can afford to shoot that can still put out some power. I had a old friend that used a. .22mag.rov. for his trapping, it was his only gun! He was very happy with it! With all the new loads, it should be ok. Thanks agin. Have a great weekend & remember those who gave it to us! Thanks agin for the info!
