I posted on mine a while ago. Ive only put a couple hundred rounds thru it but 0 failures. Trigver seemed like a long pull but the wt and reset are very nice, easy to find, and easy to get used to and shoot accurate. I have a Glock 23 that is still a mystery that im going to crack but i enjoy the SR9 quite a bit more. Good luck.

I have the very early version that required the early upgrade and had a peening barrel hood.

Ruger fixed both and now after many thousands of rounds it is one of my favorite pistols.

I've shot 2 of them, and I liked them. The owners liked them too. Accurate, reliable, comfortable... I like the way they look. I'll probably end up with one eventually.

as his first firearm. We tore it down and cleaned it, then took it to the range for a little break-in. Man, I'm impressed! VERY soft shooting, comfortable firearm. Was pretty amazed that it's almost the same size as my FEG PA-63!

I'll be taking that FEG and a BPS that's been gathering dust to the local shop to trade in, I gotta have one!

Have a past review of the SR9c. It has now become my carry pistol.

Just curious, what is it about the SR9 that made you choose it over the other similar striker fired pistols (those being XD/XDm, M&P, and Glock, at least to my knowledge)?

From what I understand, any of the 4 I listed (Ruger/Springfield/S&W/Glock) make fine pistols.

I impulse bought the SR9C. I just happened to be in the gun store when it was delivered.
I had impulse bought the Ruger LC9 and was so pleased with it I bought a second one.

When I saw the SR9C was so much like the LC9 I thought I'd give it a try.
I like the SR9C so much I bought a second one. Then I bought the SR40C.

I started to buy the SR9 but it's so close in size to the SRC I stayed with the "C".

I have both an SR9 and an SR9c. They are both reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. At approximately 500 rounds each, nothing has even resembled a hesitation, much less a jam.

They are both extremely slim for Rugers, light-weight, and very comfortable in the hand. Even +P+ rounds are surprisingly soft shooting.

Another SR9C fan here, and a leftie as well. Gun feels good, shoots well, no issues in 500-600 rounds, all makes and bullet types. This is my EDC. When you test fire one, run a couple mags to get the feel for the trigger, then start shooting for group.

I will be getting a SR9 soon. Held one today, priced right and can't wait to join the HC 9 club!:D

I like all the features, being my auto now is a 1911.

let me add my approval to this chorus. the 9c rides with me in my truck, mile after mile. then, when it's time for fun at the range, out she comes, with a couple extra mags. pop, pop, pop, one after the other.

don't know how you could ask for a more effective sidearm.

I bought a SR9c and it replaced my Glock 26 as my carry pistol.
I'm more accurate with my SR9c and it feels better in my grip.

The trigger is simply fantastic.
In fact, it's best trigger of any polymer striker fired pistol that I've ever tried.
And I've owned and shot Glocks, XDs, and M&Ps.

My wife also likes the SR9c too, and she is very accurate with it as well.
She has the one with the stainless slide, I have the black one...

I removed the magazine disconnect on both pistols.
It was extremely easy to remove.
Here's a vid that shows you how (not my vid, but a good one)...

Perfect size and weight for what I wanted. Perfect (natural) fit for my hand. "Felt" slimmest double stack 9mm. Accurate. VERY reliable. Incredible trigger.

Oh yeah... great price.

So, to balance out all the rave reviews above, I have one but it is not nearly my favorite.

- Not a fan of the trigger. My understanding is that they have upgraded triggers since I bought mine (about 3 years ago).
- Mag release is hard to push compared to most of my other guns (Sigs, Glock, Kahr).
- Slide lock lever is small and not as easy to manipulate as other guns.
- Don't like magazine disconnect safety (not supposed to dry fire without a magazine because of it) - although it is pretty easy to remove and I did this.
- I don't like safeties on guns and this has one.
- The safety is small and not as easy to operate as others. And when racking the slide, the top of the safety digs into your hand.
- Aftermarket: little to no aftermarket for it.
- Accuracy...This is subjective, but I shoot ALL of my other guns better (G19, Sig P226, Sig P220, SigP250, Kahr CW9, S&W M&P 8 Revolver). Okay, I lied. I shoot it better than my LCP :)

The positives:
- Grip size is nice - fits well in my hand.
- Reliable - when I first got it, I had troubles shooting it out of the box. The slide wouldn't go into battery. Was happening frequently in my first 100 rounds. After cleaning it, I had one more failure immediately. I guess it broke in after this, cause it hasn't had any issues since.

I really wanted to love the gun, but it hasn't done it for me. Good luck with whatever you do.

SigMic, It sounds like it has everything you don't like in a pistol.
Had you ever handled one in a store before you bought yours?

TarDevil, thanks for answering, but I was more asking the OP what his reasons were for the SR9 over the competitors, because I think (for the most part) with the dozen-or-so mainstream brands/styles of handguns, it's more about preference than anything else.

I haven't shot one, but was impressed last time I held one. The bore axis is so low, and the grip is shaped to fit your hand very well.

I would have to get rid of that silly flag up top though. They make an inactive steel insert for that though.

I only have positive things to say about my SR9c, so much so that all my other polymer/strike-fired pistols have moved on to different owners.

Now, if they only get on their horses and make me a SR45c...

First off I think Ruger centerfire pistols are an absolute abomination. A buddy recently purchased the SR9c in a stainless finish. We took it to the range and I brought my G34. I tell you what, that Ruger shot as well, yes, just as well as the G34. It was flawless through a whopping 200 rounds as well. The sights are great, I love fine sights though. All in all, I expected the worst but was very pleasantly surprised by this more than utilitarian little pistol. For the money it's a pretty good buy.

I had an SR9, and I loved it. In fact, you can see a youtube video of me shooting it here: Shooting! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Od01PREm80)

I loved it, and the only reason I gave that one up was because my buddies dad needed a pistol and I needed some money. My single complaint rotated around the fact that I could not get this one particular weaponlight to go on the rail. I do not know why, and I didn't have problems with any other brand. Accuracy was good, function was great.

I didn't replace it because I wanted to try some different things, though I will say unequivocally that I really, really like those pistols. I may buy another one just because someday, and I will buy an SR9c as a carry pistol should I decide to replace my Glock (which, in fact, I might be selling back to the guy I bought it from).

As a side note, I have dropped about 50 lbs since that video was shot and shaved off my sweet viking beard. I am almost respectable now! In fact, you can check this video too see the slightly improved Timbokhan rocking and rolling: Improvements! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7DzZRaPf8o)

I wish someone would give me a GOOD reason why the LCI is such an issue? Can't even see the thing while shooting, and doesn't get in my way in at all.

Ruger pistols are part utilitarian pistol, and part an expression of what Ruger's lawyers would like a pistol to look like. Between the loaded chamber indicators, and billboard sized warnings that adorn the pistol it's an embarrassment and rather unsighty to those that prefer a clean looking firearm.

There are no billboards to be found on the SR9. The warning is printed in small letters on the frame.

As far as loaded chamber indicators, lots and lots of pistols have loaded chamber indicators, so maybe calling them an "embarrasment" is a little dramatic. I personally don't understand the hissy fit people throw over them, particularly since I actually do see the potential usefulness of them and can appreciate being able to see the warning from across a room. But, whatever. If you hate them, your voting with your wallet not mine so I don't really care in the long run.

By good reason do you mean in terms of functionality? If so then no I don't have one.

It's not that I don't like all LCI's. The one on my M&P9 is just fine. All it is, is a notch cut into the barrel hood. I don't like the kind that pop up. I find them goofy and unsightly. As well as an insult to my commitment to gun safety. To each his own though, so if you like them fine. But, I'd have to get rid of it.

I also don't like the trend of putting manual safeties on all models and telling people to who don't want them to just ignore it. That's a different subject entirely however.

Bottom line is the SR9 is still a great, American made gun I'd love to own.

I, too, was a bit turned off by the LCI for a little bit until I came to a simple realization. I can't see it while I'm shooting, its not in the way. Being a carry gun the Ruger either sits in the bedside safe, or in my holster, under my shirt. When exactly is it going to bother me with its looks?

That said, to each their own and its really wonderful now with so many options that each can actually find their own ideal.

I love everything about the sr9 especially the ergos and price but I'm also guilty of not caring for three LCI and warning stamped on it but it doesn't affect function one bit and i have other guns for "pretty" guns. Talking about LCI's, I really like the one on my Five-seveN. Its just a tiny silver bump the protrudes from the slide a teeny bit, just enough that you can visually see it but its very easy to feel it. Nice, functional and clean looking.

I love my SR9 and SR9c. They are great shooters. I put them up there with the rest of my pistols which are Walther PPQ, Springfield XD with combat/carry trigger and a Glock 30sf. For the price they are a bargain. I saw a SR9c in a Pawn shop yesterday, brand new for $389.00.

The SR9 was my dad's first pistol, picked up last week and shot today. We don't have a rental range nearby, so I let him try a few types before we hit the gun store. Once we were there he held a few more. The Ruger won him over for best feel and natural pointability, in spite of it not being one of the guns he shot first.

Reliability was not an issue. We went through about 100 rounds today, trouble free.

Sights were stock, and easy to align well during daylight target shooting.

Feel is not Glockish. The grip is narrower, with a more classic angle to it.

For me, I would say that the fundamentals of marksmanship applied to this pistol will produce hits. For dad, it looks like he picked a good first pistol. We shot at ranges from 12-30 yards, starting out with an 8 1/2" X 11" paper with a bullseye drawn on. His first shot nicked the circle, and in the first magazine of the first pistol he's ever owned he put 12/17 rounds on the paper. After reviewing a few things he got even better. When we backed up, targets were plastic bottles and cans, and the SR9 was a lot of fun for plinking.

The LCI wasn't a hindrance to shooting whatsoever.

While more subjective, I'll share a couple aspects of the pistol I didn't warm up to:

The mechanical safety isn't something I'm used to, and was very small. I typically shoot 1911s or Glocks, so am not used to a smaller lever. If you intended to make it a carry pistol, and all other factors were great, I'm sure it could be carried safety off, or training could be used to make it a seamless part of the draw. It just felt a little unnatural. My hand also caught a minor nip from it when releasing the slide manually.

The narrow grip beat the webbing on my hand at the top. This too goes back to guns I'm more used to having wider grip circumference, and therefore more surface area to transfer recoil to the hand.

The trigger wasn't difficult to shoot; however, I didn't like the length of travel to reset (very long). Additionally, when resetting the trigger didn't feel smooth in its travel forward, which meant that at first it felt like it had reset when in fact it hadn't. I expect this will be solved with a little more lube, and more time on the range shooting the gun.

Overall I'd say the SR9 is a great value for the price. If it fits, I would definitely go for it.

I was going to wait until tommorow until I started a seperate thread about my Ruger, but I'm a sucker for an SR9 thread.

I bought mine used about 2 years ago, and had put about 3K rounds through it. As of today, I'm 2/3 of the way done with Chris Costa's Handgun 2 class. Put 500 rounds through it yesterday, and another 700 through today, bringing the total round count upto about 4,200. Still no problems.

The gun shoots well, and I have a blister from riding the safety like you would a 1911 for over 1k rounds, but otherwise, the gun is doing great.

If you like it, get it. Don't buy one just because someone on the internet says you should, but if it fits your hands, get one.... or two.

Be advised, they do have a magazine disconect, which isn't too hard to take out, and magazines are kinda pricey.

If you have any specific questions I'll try to answer them.

Have a good one,

Chris "the Kayak-Man" Johnson

While I might have liked to experiment with it, this trip was more about my dad getting acquainted with the gun. We left it as-is this time out since the feel was what drew him to the pistol, but we'll probably try it flat next time. Good observation.

My Dad bought one after Wisconsin passed their CCW law and told me how impressed he was with it. When I visited him he let me shoot it and I was impressed enough to go and buy one. I now have 500 rds through it and am more impressed than before. For $400 its one of the best buys out there.
