I am looking for grips to fit a Model 66 with a 2.5 barrel...this is to be a CCW piece so I want the grips to be compact....I am leaning toward rubber I like the Hogue Bantam but I would really like a set that cover the backstrap...I the rubber compact grips work I will probaly move up to Eagle Secret Service grip in Rosewood a little later...provided that they cover the backstrap also....anyone have any suggestion that will help me and an internet site to buy them would be great.

Thanks

Greeting's Karate-

You may want to consider a set of Pachmayr "Gripper's"
for your 2.5" S&W model 66. These do cover the back
strap; but they are a little larger than the Hogue grips
sold under the name "Bantam's".

Only thing, Pachmayr's are a little hard to find as not
everyone carries them! Do a search over on e-bay,
and you may be able to find exactly what you are
looking for at a fraction of the cost?

Best Wishes,

Any thoughts on Wood vs Rubber in the felt recoil department.

I went for the Pachmayr Compac grips for my 66's. They're fairly small and concealable, but cover the backstrap, and work very well for me. See here (http://www.pachmayr.com/pachmayr/index.htm) and click on "Grips" for more information. They look like this:

A good second choice would be the Butler Creek grips - see here (http://www.michaels-oregon.com/adtemplate_child.asp?c=9007610&p=4522973&catky=4954223&subcatky1=4548794&subcatky2=4432794) for details. They look like this:

My first move with ANY revolver I acquire is to get a set of Pachmayr grips and throw whatever comes on the gun in the parts box- before I even shoot it. There seems to be some kind of conspiracy on the part of gun manufacturers to deliberately supply grips on their revolvers that DON'T fit my hand. "Pachmayr" is therefore as important a name to me as "Ruger," S&W," or "Colt." It's odd, because I'm comfortable with nearly any automatic as it comes from the box...

I just bought my first Pachmayr Compac for a Model 60. I really like this grip so far, and am very happy to be rid of that ridiculous banana-shapped Uncle Mike's that comes stock with this gun.
