Roadkill

Took a couple of old guns along. We hear/read a lot about German and US military rifles but the Imperial Japanese rifles tend to not get near the attention. So for fun I brought a Springfield 1903 and a Type 99 for comparison.

The Type 99 is an early war version, the 1903 is a 1942 rebuild. Both are in as issued condition. Both have excellent sights.

I was shooting at 75 yds. First the 1903. First five. That's about a 3" spread. I've done better though but was trying to be fair by just loading five and shooting slowly.

Now the Type 99

First five - Top was the first shot - not like I shoot this thing every day. Trigger pull threw me off.

Type 99s, if in good condition and with good ammunition are very capable rifles. I was shooting my reloads with the same load of 44g IMR 4895 and a 150g bullet.
