Went to the practice range with a friend of mine yesterday, an experinced duck and goose hunter. We went with a box of clays and a few boxes of target loads. He'd just picked up a mossberg 500 an identical twin to mine.

He put a full choke in his i started off with an improved cyl, and ended with a modified when i started to get the lead down and really connect.

what fun, the last two groups i went 5 for 6! granted we were frisbee style hand chuckin em. i guess a challange in itself, since you never know where it's going. maybe one day i'll get out waterfoul hunting with him.

Took a bit of getting used too. i could never truely get it right with both eyes open. Ended up low with too much lead every time. Once i squinted the left eye a bit, smacked em almost every time.

Sounds like fun.

I also enjoy shooting clay targets.

Good deal...If you have access to a trap field, try it sometime. It's addictive...

FYI, that's not "sporting clays". Sporting clays is a shooting discipline with rules. http://www.nssa-nsca.org. It's a bit akin to saying you were in a golf tournament when you were playing against friends at the local mini-golf place.

Glad you had fun shooting your hand thrown targets though.

It is a good thing that he didn't say anything about sporting clays then isn't it. It says shooting clays.

I also love you get out and hit clays, even if it is just with a hand thrower. Most of the time that ends up being more fun anyway. I agree with BigN though, getting out on a trap field can be very addictive...

Even the hand thrower, with the handle extension, can fling the target decently, but you will never be able to replicate what you get using full-power machines. Once you get a little more comfortable, check here:

and find a clay target club in your area and go have some frustrating fun....:D
