Sportsman Caucus announces bill that among other things would prevent EPA from banning lead ammo. Sponsored by Sen. Tester (Dem from Montana) and Sen. Thune (Republican from S. Dakota). Finally people are working together and not just posturing. Call elected officials in Senate and House of Representatives to support.

Strange, the EPA has twice said themselves in the past couple of years it doesn't have the authority to ban lead ammunition under TSCA so what's the actual objective?

At the same time, I can certainly believe that there must be those within and without who would still like them to regulate lead in ammunition.

With the lead ban in California to 'protect'the Condors, they have introduced them to the area that includes the north rim of the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, which means their territory could overlap into southern Utah, ironically making it OUR problem. In addition to this, there is also talk about making that section of the AZ strip a national monument. It would be sandwiched between Grand Canyon NP and the Grand Staircase National Monument. I could see how some EPA pressure would help them to seize the whole belt to 'protect' the land from the locals.

Those ammunition restrictions on lead free shot are not the EPA's doing. They're done at the lower levels of government. TSCA specifically prevents EPA from regulating ammunition and fishing weights and no amount of cries to get EPA to ban them will do any good since they're "protected" under the law. Amending the regulation simply isn't in the cards.

If you're going to rally the troops to move on a problem we have to be moving on the real target instead of one that isn't there. Fighting shadows is a waste of resources.

The wildlife lead toxicity problem is being overstated by a very marginal group. Major environmental groups are not leading this effort.

If members want to have a discussion about the basis for the complaints against lead in ammunition by these groups you'll need to go to the discussion in General.

I very much agree. I just think that we would be unwise to dismiss any avenue which out opposition may consider. Al Capone thought it was stupid to pay taxes when the feds were trying to get you for murder and racketeering.
