I have an old M77 (tang safety) that's been collecting dust for a while and have been thinking about selling/trading it to something more useful to me. Gun has a laminated stock, blued and is exceptional (9.5/10) condition. It has a Leupold Vari-X III (I believe a 4.5-16x or similar) that's also fairly old that I could sell with the gun. Unfortunately I'm away from home and couldn't find any pictures but that's what I remember off the top of my head.

I took it to a LGS a while back and they offered $400 for the scope/rifle which I thought seemed much too low but it's more pawn shop than gun store. I'm thinking maybe $400-500 for the rifle to a private party, $750 with scope and maybe $100 less to a store that would resell it. Does that sound about right? I have my eye on a Blackhawk convertible at another LGS so I may see if they would do better on a trade but wanted to make sure I was in the right range first.

Any advice would be appreciated, I've checked gunbroker and haven't found one that's the exact same but $4-500 seems about right for the gun...the scope I'm not sure about. My apologies if this was posted in the wrong place, I saw a few other threads so thought this was appropriate. Thanks!

I saw a stainless/synthetic M77 in 7mm rem mag with rings and no scope for $460 out the door at a gun show a couple weeks back and I am kicking myself for not buying it. They are all over Gunbroker for $400ish with no scope. They are great guns but no one is buying them this time of the year and every gun show I go to has the same rifles week after week, month after month. You should keep the scope for your next rifle.

I had a 270 Hawkeye stainless/composite (all-weather) that wasn't a great shooter and the gun shop allowed my 450 to trade for anything in the shop. I did get another Hawkeye, but in a 280 Rem. No scopes were involved in the trade.

I bought the same gun 5 or 6 years ago but with a weaver 4x scope for around $400, I don't remember exactly. Maybe $375 to $425 . I love my gun and wouldn't sell it. It shoots great, but it ain't a museum piece.
