Oh Boy

A fellow that I had done some work for came by with a little extra something.

A full regulation size 500 meter ram made out of 1/2 inch A500.

I'm thinking I am going to play a joke on the Mrs. I put the think down along side the goat pasture and when she notices and says there's a goat out. I go out with the the percussion rifle and shoot that darn "escapee"

I don't have room for a 500 meter range (at least not without clearing a lot of trees) but I have 100 yd. I am gonna hang it and I am gonna use it for long range muzzle loading pistol shooting. Haven't done any of that in a while. It makes a fairly loud clang when hit.

You should repaint it to match your real goats first.

When Mrs. Zimmer catches on to the joke.....

You may find yourself being smitten about the head & shoulders with your BP revolver...

Very cool! I've been thinking about making some steel silhouettes for muzzleloaders and .22 rimfire. Shooting long range with BP rifles or rimfires is a lot of fun, although cans get boring after a while. Empty propane canisters are fun, same with steel gongs. I've got a nice little 6" steel gong I hang at 100 yards for my .22's. Steel targets are definitely fun!

You should get out the paint and paint it to look like a real goat. Use blonde and brown for the horns, grey or black (whatever color your goats are) for the fur, and do it up right.

Then get a Remmy and pick the thing off from a good distance away Dirty Harry style. :neener:

the target is already white, as are the goats.

Busyhands. At a local community recycling center, I saw a pile of discs from a dismantled farm implement. The discs are hardened steel and tough as tool steel. They withstand round balls just fine but a minnie ball can dent or crack them. I hung a few of them with chains to shoot. Ruined two drill bits each to drill holes to hang them.

Dang, are those discs from a harrow? If so, they should make pretty good knife steel.

Jaymo the generally have a pretty good curve in them that would be hard to flatten.

That's what the forge and anvil are for. :)

My son makes a great work out of them...weld a piece of steel in the axle hole, attach a couple of re-bar handles...you're good to go!

Minies do hit harder than round ball. How did Mrs Zimmer respond?
