Foxnews is reporting that Ralph Nader is running again this year. They are also reporting the recess appointment of Bill Pryor.
Good day for the good guys.

I'm afraid that Ralphie boy won't be drawing too much of a turnout this time around.
The folks that voted for him, mostly hard left Dems like my Lib sister, thought of it as a protest vote. When GWB got in she was stunned and angry. The whole Florida recount debate kept thing lively at family get togethers for almost a year before she realized that it wasn't going to change. Her and her ilk won't make the same "mistake" twice.
Of course she voted for Perot twice too, so that kind of evens out the scales of justice.
They hate Bush so vividly that I think Nader won't even make it to 1%, IMHO.
But it's nice that the greenies have somewhere to go now.

He's not running as a green, but an indie. Still better than nothing :)

I don't think he's going to have anything like the impact he did before, since Kerry is so far to the left himself. But then again, Kerry is definitley a critter of the establishment and a lobbyist-slut, so maybe a fair proportion of the hard-left lunatic fringe will still go to Nader. Either way, he could still be a spoiler in closely divided states, of which there will probably be many.
And I bet he'll still beat whoever the Libertarian Party puts up. Though I'd like to be wrong on that count, I'll bet that most of the libertarians here on THR don't even know who their candidate is... let alone the wider world that as often as not has never heard of the Libertarian Party, period.

All Ralphie will have to do is draw 1 to 2% away. He has done it before. Maybe all the Howierd Dean supporters will go with him. I hope this news is true. If so, it made my Friday! :D

This is great news. I'm still hoping Dean will run 3rd party that could draw some votes from Kerry.

Nader is the standard bearer of the Mad Cow Party (a linial decendant of the Bull Moose Party).
'Crazy' Dennis will be Sec. of Defense and rename DoD to Dept. of Pease.
Carvil will be Sec. of Education so that everybody will talk fast and uninteligbly.
Da Rev. Jackson will be Sec. of Treasury, "Everbody know I can shake down a corporation, them lil citizens won't know what hit 'em".
Ingrid Newkirk will be Sec. of Agriculture so no one can eat meat, vegetables or, anything else. All PETA members will be Agriculture Inspectors.
Who have I left out...

I'll bet that most of the libertarians here on THR don't even know who their candidate is...
Don't assume that all l ibertarians are L ibertarians -- or that THR members aren't too smart to throw away a vote on a hopeless candidate.

The Libertarian Party National Convention is not until the end of May. So your point is what?

My point is I'm surprised that somebody actually knows that.

Oh, I didn't do that, that's why one was L and one was l in my post. Of course, if even libertarians can't be bothered to know anything about the Libertarian Party... that kind of says it all about the LP's current state. ;)

For those who think that Nader won't have that much influence on the vote, think outside the box for a minute.
It's not a 1:1 either/or deal. Nader's presence will skew polling data, and potentially cause Kerry to show too much of his commie pink petticoats in an effort to woo the leftist vote.

I think some guy named Gary Noland might be the Lib candidate, but I could be totally wrong, don't even remember where I read that. I'm just glad that Nader will be taking a little of the peacenik hippy vote from Kerry.

Since Nader is going Indie, hopefully Kucinich will go Green to further dilute the vote.

Hmmm... where are all the not-so-pleased-with-Bush voters out there?
Guess I'll start... I'm not voting for Bush this year, and no throw away vote from me.

Hey, I'm in favor of anything that will divide and conquer the loony left.
Ralphy might get more votes running as a Green, but I think he has more personnal name recognition than they do.

This may be more of a "platform power play" than anything else. The left is jumping up and down and spitting rubber nickels, hoping for a best case scenario of damage control, because there will be some fallout from Nader's announcement. Nader knows this, and he also knows he's not likely to get the same % of votes this time. The Democratic party knows this too, however the current polls show a potentially very tight race and even 1-2% could be the difference. It is more likely Nader wants and is getting "face time" in order to get his 2 cents worth on the Dem's platform. Frankly I wish there were more credible "Naders" running, on both the left and the right, not because I even remotely support him but because we have 2 choices with a realistic chance of winning, and a large number of voters view either as the "lesser of 2 evils". "W" was elected because at least he was honest, and given the tremendous handicap he faced from the power of the "vast liberal media conspiracy" he's fortunate to have won. From what I've seen so far the election may again come down to voters electing the most honest candidate, and once more, the winner will be viewed by all too many as the "lesser of 2 evils".

Here is an email I just received from Little Meek. It announces the initial progress of "Operation Red Sea". We are not endorsing Nader. We are just making sure all of our liberal friends know he is getting ready to run for president.
"Operation Red Sea" may be worth having its own thread?
Well Mr. Dad,
I'm actively campagning for Nader--at least to all my liberal friends. A whole lot of them are saying "wow.. I didn't even know he was running again! that's great!!"
only one (out of about 20 so far) had the sense to say "But I think he's just going to end up splitting the vote"--the rest, however, rushed to tell their friends and to check out the website.
Of course, I've also told Joe to tell his liberal friends--Joe, the conservative republican who would have died from cancer had we been living in a country with socialized medicine--and he thinks it's a great idea.
It's great to tell them, "Instead of just picking the lesser of two evils, why not vote for someone that's actually good?" They ponder it for a moment or two and reply, "you know... you're absolutely right. Thanks, Little Meek. I'd always thought you were a right-wing idiot, but you're a really smart/attractive/wonderful guy. I'm going to tell my friends about this too."

What we should do is elect Ralph. The gridlock would last from day one. Nothing would get done in washington. With a large republican presence in the house and senate the evening news would be the same for four years. Nothing done today.
