Hello. Recently purchased brand new ruger sp101 2.5" barrel.
couple of issues..need opinions.
1. In pic there is a burr on the topstrap, i have considered smoothing it out myself with a scotchbrite pad and lube... any opinions with this. All i would be doing is smoothing out the burr so that the topstrap runs straight across.
2. The trigger seems heavy, more specifically after hammer drops and releasing the trigger it squeels?? Wondering if this will smooth out?

The thing that worries me is that ruger will smooth out the burr and take uneven amount of metal and make it look worse?

What would you guys do?
Sorry cannot upload pic right now. Will try again later. Thanks all

#2 Squealing sounds like a good cleaning and oiling are in order.

#1 - No comment on that without seeing a picture.
Probably something a flat oil stone or a needle file would handle way less noticeably then rubbing a hand held Scotchbrite pad though.

I can't see any picture of it so I can't comment on the first question
On the second question, I would call Ruger and take that up with them.

They may issue a call tag to have it sent in for inspection which won't cost you anything. I know it sucks because you just bought a new pistol and all.

Call them and follow their instructions, It's a brand new gun under warrenty.

They will take care of it. For them to make it look worse is uncharictoristic of them. More likely, they would replace it before they would have an un-happy customer, but again I'm going on faith here because of no picture.

I have never heard of a trigger making any kind of a noice. That's a new one on me but I'm not doubting your word.

Once again it seems like rc has it correct.

Is there a possibility of a pic?

Here are the pics of the topstrap. I may just leave it alone as it effects nothing i believe..

A burr can be left alone, or dressed-down at your discretion with something like a knife sharpening stone. (I cannot see your pics well enough to see much.)

I wish I better understood the sound your weapon makes. Could it be the mainspring vibrating? If one is not used to revolvers with coil springs, this "s-p-r-o-i-n-g-g-g" could be a bit disconcerting.

Pop out the trigger group and oil er up...can't really see the burr in your pic but I'd probably leave it unless it cuts you when you clean it.

Start shooting it after a decent cleaning and lube job. Mine got really smooth after about 1K draw and fire cycles. it's a really stout, heavy duty "fire club".
