I just got an email from Tapco with a link to a new law for Georgia people.
http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2003_04/versions/hb1380_LC_9_1417_a_2.htm
Question to Geargia residents: What are the odds of this law passing?

Georgia?
It looks like a Brady Wish List, complete with hyperbole and arbitrary and capricious determinations.

Any person who willfully violates the provisions of this Code section shall be guilty of a felony and, upon conviction, shall be fined not more than $10,000.00 or imprisoned for not more than two years, or both."
Now there's case where the punishment fits the crime, ain't it? Why didn't they also include the provision about the loss of all firearms rights for the life of the accused in this idiotic excercise in legaleze verbosity?
Maybe they thought it would be "too wordy".

From the legislation:
Semiautomatic assault weapons are military-style guns designed to quickly kill large numbers of people. The shooter can simply point, rather than carefully aim, the weapon to quickly spray a wide area with a hail of bullets;
The point-and-shoot-concept - no need to aim, just pull the trigger and people will just start dropping like flies. It's that hail of bullets thing that does the job.
More:
(1) 'Assault weapon' means: (A) Any semiautomatic or pump-action rifle or semiautomatic pistol that is capable of accepting a detachable magazine and that also possesses any of the following:
(i) If the firearm is a rifle, a pistol grip located behind the trigger;
(ii) If the firearm is a rifle, a stock in any configuration, including but not limited to a thumbhole stock, a folding stock, or a telescoping stock, that allows the bearer of the firearm to grasp the firearm with the trigger hand such that the web of the trigger hand, between the thumb and forefinger, can be placed below the top of the external portion of the trigger during firing;
Of course, there's more, and it sounds quite similar to California's "assault weapons" laws. You don't want to have too firm of a grip on your rifle, there, pard, you'll be able to mow down innocent bystanders more efficiently otherwise.
I don't live in Georgia, I'm in the People's Republic of California, but you folks in Georgia really don't want this monstrosity to pass. Owning a semi-auto rifle becomes very difficult. Also note that this law also has provisions for shotguns and pistols.

The part I love is that they, through their inane stupidity and total lack of firearms knowledge, are, by this legislation, forcing the shooter to bring the rifle to his shoulder and sight down the barrel before pulling the trigger increasing the chance of every round being a hit rather than being sent downrange harmlessly.
If the "spray and pray" theory works, then the shooter has to expend three or four rounds for every hit; which would include hits to arms, legs, etc. Now they will be forced to score a hit with every round while aiming at center of mass.
If I have to have some clown shooting at me, I would rather he be shooting from the hip than taking careful aim at me.
The law of unintended consequences, and insipid stupidity, strikes again.
Note also that all Olympic shooters are now madmen ready to spray crowds of people with their newly defined "assault pistols".
Imagine, an 1896 Broomhandle Mauser pistol -- one-hundred eight years old this year -- is now considered an "assault pistol"; and even more specially evil if you have the wooden holster / stock.
