As the title states, do you guys think it would a good trade to trade an older model ('95) german made 226 with only slight holster wear for a LNIB FNX40?

Even though I think these guns fill two different roles, and having had (and liked) both, I'd stick with the Sig. YMMV.

Only if you want a FNX40 .40 worse then an old German made SIG 9mm you can't easily replace with one as good.
Was I me, I wouldn't.
But I'm a much bigger German made SIG fan then a FN fan.

How are the rails? Do you see any large white spots on them? How does the outside of the barrel look? Google around and you should find photos on evaluating SIG rails.

I would not do it but if you can shoot the FNX 40 better than the SIG P226 go for it.
But I can't tell you how many, and it has been a lot, of shooters I have read about on the forums that desparately wish they had their German P226 back that they foolishly let go in the past.

It's easy to find the FNX. Not so much for a good German mfgr Sig.
Keep the Sig. It's more valuable.

Hhmmm.... That's kinda what I was suspecting. I really like my Sig, and it's in very good shape for it's age, I just don't shoot it a whole lot. I kind of wonder if I would regret it down the road though....

Do you have the opportunity to shoot the FNX before the trade? If you do I would see if you like it. Some people don't like the .40, I recently switched to .40 and found a pistol that works for me, well two but only acquired one. If you can shoot the 226 well and like it the FNX may not be as good for you, or it may be better but see if you can test it.
If it were me, I wouldn't do a straight up trade, I would be expecting cash to make it even from the FNX owner.

You better keep the Sig!!!!

It's likely that you would be better served to sell your Sig if you don't want it, and then use the proceeds to buy a FN or whatever. If you trade straight across, I think your getting the short end of the stick.

Not a chance.

Depends how many magazines and other real accessories are coming with them. If the FNX is coming with ten magazines, and you've just got two or three for the Sig, well that would weigh pretty heavily in my mind, if you like the pistols equally well and shoot them close enough to the same.

The older 226s are arguably one of the very most reliable DA pistols ever made. Save your money and buy the FNX40. Myself I doubt I'll ever buy another .40 caliber pistol.

Couldn't do it. Wouldn't be prudent.

I like the FN pistols, but wouldn't make that trade.

Wow, looks as though it's a pretty unanimous decision! I'm planning on keeping it, just have to be patient until I save up enough for the FNX. I only plan on keeping one gun in .40 and that seems to be a good one.

I would keep the Sig.
June 24, 2012, 09:15 PM
Don't do it!

Nope. Keep the Sig. It only get better through the ages.
