How often should I replace the recoil spring in my XDm?

I've had a 9mm XDm for about a year and a half. I shoot at least 50 rounds a week from it, often more than that, so I can easily say that it has 5000+ rounds through it.

How often should I expect to have to change the recoil spring? I've have not experienced any failures of any kind yet, but I have started to see my POI start to rise lately with my usual handloads. Once in a while I get one that is very much outside the norm for my crappy shooting, 5-7" high at 10 yards. Is it time to order a new one?

Brian, that's easy -

It's in your owners manual and my bet is it says around 5000/6000 mark..

You've done the math so get one, they're so affordable and easy to swap out.

That, or when things start to feel different, like slide slam feeling or feed issues creep in, that's your old tired out return spring talking..

Adding, new or old, wearing out return spring will have zero effect on your accuracy, as IF the bullet is good, and it fires, it's going where any of the other first good, 5000 plus, live rounds went, downrange.. Accuracy is in the be-holder.

Ps.. adding, again, only an underpowered bullet (which happens now and then) will be way off POA/POI

OMMV

I'm assume the XDm is similar to XD. On my 5" I changed them every 5-6000. Sometime I would start getting failures to eject properly if I kept them longer. They're aren't that expensive. Order a couple and you'll be good for a long time.

if its a a carry gun/home defence guns, i replace eveey 2 years. i look at it was cheap insurance.

its a range/target pratice gun, i replace 5 years.

unless it was showing signs of a bad/weak spring. i have changed the springs in my wifes p238 in 700 rounds.
