Tell me about the SIG M400

So I'm killing a few minutes at Walmart recently and I see an M400 "Enhanced" for $917. Right next to it is the Colt 6920 for a little under $1100. Now I have a pretty good idea that the Colt is a nice rifle, but know nothing about this SIG entry into the AR corral. School me.

The Sig is quite the rifle. I've shot it, don't own it. I liken it to the 6920, roughly compatible in weight, profile. But, then again, it's like the M&P, BMI...they're all the same really. It's a good gun. :)

So, only one member of THR has any experience with this rifle? I was looking for either "Dude, buy it" or "stay away" type input.

I saw one at the range. Trigger pins kept walking out when he was shooting and had to keep banging them back into place with his magazine.

I looked one over really good at Academy (tan version with Magpul stuff). It seemed well built and I like the ambi-mag release. They claim their barrel extension is different too and ensures better extraction, not sure how though. I think it was innovative to put the QD recesses in the lower receiver too, but personally wouldn't use them.

In the end, it is just another 16", carbine-gas, 5.56 rifle.

I asked the same question on The Firing Line. This is the thread with responses.

After considering everything I bought a Palmetto State Armory for $750 and feel I got a better gun, for less money. Not that I think the Sig is bad. But after considring everything I just felt the PSA was a tiny bit better and for less money.

The fact that it was in a conventional gunstore that took in a pistol I no longer wanted in trade was a big factor in my decision as well. Walmart doesn't take tradeins.

I agree that the PSA's seem to give you more for your money... plus you have other options, if you don't like the non-ideal 16" carbine gas M-4gery setup. You can go 16" mid-length, 14.7" carbine length or mid-length, or 20" rifle length. The FN Custom Uppers from PK firearms look like pretty awesome deals too. The only thing I'm not sure on with those are the bolts, and whether they are mil-spec... I sent them an e-mail asking for the specifics.

EDIT: PK responded that their bolts are made by RRA (so are not HPT/MPI and are semi auto BCG's).

they are prob great rifles as sig makes quality stuff, but logistically speaking,ar stuff to rebuild the entire rifle in the future, will be more readily available than sig parts.
