Wanted to load this powder into a cartridge of a 45 colt. The powder container sent me to the web pages for the powder but it won't come up for me. I went to the Hodgdon site and the only info I am finding is on pellets. One said to load one pellet and let it rattle around and One said to load the powder to just above the seating depth so as to compress the load a tad, ( im assuming pellets) or install wads into the case for a lighter load. Here again no specific measurements. If I can't use my scale to measure, what is the best way to measure the volume to get between 25 to 30 grains.( if I understand the units) Boy is this confusing to me. I don't want to see my name in the paper. Can someone here set me straight? This can't be that difficult can it. All this for a scout demo and OH my big mouth. John

From Hodgdon:
WARNING: Never allow an air space in any cartridge loaded with Pyrodex. The loading density must be 100% by light compression.
100% loading density may be accomplished in two ways:

The case is filled with powder to a level that will provide light compression of the powder (1/16" to 1/8") when the bullet is seated.
Bottle necked cases must be loaded in this manner.

In straight walled cases, filler wads may be used to reduce the powder charge. This is done by inserting card or Polyethylene wads between the base of the bullet and the powder. Wads should be sized to the internal diameter of the cartridge case. The loader must be careful to insure that there are no void spaces in the assembled cartridge.

This tells me the Pryodex should be loaded exactly the same way black powder should be loaded.

Fill the case to just above where the base of the bullet will end up after seating, and then compress the charge a little when seating & crimping.

Whatever that weighs is the weight you should use.

If you don't want a full charge load, replace some of the powder with a filler wad under the bullet so you still get the same compressed load effect.
