I happened to be browsing Remington's website tonight and came upon their 8 gauge MasterBlaster kiln de-scaling gun (http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/industrial/masterblaster-system.aspx). My first thought was how cool it is that anyone makes an 8 gauge gun, but my second thought was what is that huge thing on the barrel?

Reading down a bit I get to the features list:

D: Powerful, oversized muffler reduces noise level up to 50%. Welded casing construction enables easy removal.

Can anyone here shed any light on how this is not an NFA regulated item? They do not mention anything about it in the description. Do businesses just pay the tax and register it, or is it somehow exempt?

Thanks

I think (don't quote me on this) that because the muffler is on a gun that's not exactly portable and can't be mounted on a portable firearm, it isn't counted as NFA. Same way that a soundtrap at a range isn't NFA- it's not portable on the firearm. This is based on something I read somewhere on the internet, though, and we all know how that is...

I bet that thing is fun to shoot...

*Side Note
Found a site that has a very interesting video on employing these guns to clean a kiln.
